Thats nice and well thought out. Simple solution.
Could look nicer if machined for R600 but for a few cents, its perfect!! Well done

Well done Alan... nice one. Its not as nice neat as the machined one or as complete, but you took the gist of it to make it work.

You could actually, if you feel like doing a 2nd one, try to make the whole thing smaller, with a smaller bolt and roller surface area. In this way it could be neater, as well as having a narrower area for the cable to move over. Well done again.

I have attached a few pics of the complete setup as you missed the new dedicated throttle tube with the added benefit of the Teflon bushes on either end. Also, the kit has a stainless steel spindle and wheel, so it wont wear out at all.

Thanks Muds, I did see that.. Make no mistake, it clearly LOOKS the business.. For now we're good to go tho.
Next IMMEDIATE update is Tony Z on saturday to check Carbs, Balance if needed, and 009 Dizzy.. Also dunno if thats needed, or if my timing is in fact right.. But right now, I can start the car and it idles around 500 rpm's and doesn't stall.. So the carbs seem to work well.. Car pulls, but not a QUICK motor, so I'm doubting if it's even a 1600 or not. I'll consider getting a new Sub in a few months time.. Not needed right now.

I want to respray it finished now, and by then, Im hoping my new lights will have arrived from the States, and I can re-fit all the new brightwork.

Thats it for now.

regards

Alan

Hi Alan
I had exactly the same slight disappointment after fitting the twin carbs - motor pulls, but not a house on fire. Was quite happy to use like that but then my coil packed up. We had previously changed to electronic ignition and the coil was a no-name brand although it seemed to do an adequate job. When it gave up the ghost we replaced with a Beru coil. Don't know if it's just my imagination, but the old lady is going like the clappers at the moment! Don't know if there is perhaps a difference in the spark quality??

Thanks for the heads up.. I'll prolly be buying a new coil anyway and re-doing my leads and plugs soon, as I really don't trust ANYTHING from the original mechie\owner. But at least it drives nicely now and is actually fun to drive.. So, getting there.

Back from a busy morning in the Speedster,

started off with a meeting with Tony Z at his place, drive out there was ok, but car's got the shivers as you're "just" on the pedal.. Got to see Tony's mastercar up close and personal. I can't actually tell you how many mods he's done to that car, and the piping, electronics, external coolers, mods, seats, wiring, I think I just touched on 10% of it all in ANGRRR is mind-blowing to say the least! The Engineering side of Tony is incredible, as is his understanding of these cars.. I was pretty humbled by his touch and within an hour, the Speedster was 100 times better.. I gave it a fast blast up and down the road outside his plot, including a rapid u-turn and managed to spin the wheels nicely.. So no more hesitation or dead spot, and the car is so much better to drive.. Tony you're a wizzard, and we'll be in contact again for sure. thanks man.

Got to the Spraypainters, and we're good to go end of March. They want the car for 4 weeks, so it should be AWESOME once done. I'll also have all the new brightwork and can rebuild everything from there.

So, for now, car's haulin' ass.. I'm happy.

Thanks boys,

Agreed, I had to find a perfect place to pose him without disturbance.. Really fun car now, and at least it's driveable now thanks to Tony's trickery.

And this is a special filter on my Missus' camera, gives images a dated, classic photo look. Looks cool with the old car.

Wow, a whole week and nothing posted.. Wohoo, clearly things are stabilizing..

Mr Postman arrived bearing gifts today. :D :D :D

Like Roger or Gary said, nothing beats NEW... So, here we have, fresh and ready for the rebuild next month, 2 pairs of new Headlight holders, and Tail Lights complete. New Chrome Bezels, the whole thing. Oooo like a kid in a candy store..
Also got the correct front Grab Handle for the Speedster, the vertical chrome handle.

Also popped in to Flat Four Racing to finally meet and greet with Dave whom I've been chatting with for a few weeks now. Also got the various bits I need for the Linkage repair, and a new Blue Coil. So will be hopefully fitting that today.

Using the Car through march here and there, end of March is a "Vintage Day" weekend in Obs, will show the car there for the morning, see whats' happening etc, and then early April, I strip the car bare myself and into the Panel Beaters for 4 weeks. Hopefully it'll come out with all the cracks, wrong holes, ridges, and so on removed, cleaned up and properly sprayed. The a few hours to refit all the NEW Chrome stuff, and as correctly as possible. Mirrors must be straightened out, Front Indicators will be flat surface mounted, and will see how I can improve the positioning of them as well. Might raise the hooter vents slightly to improve their positioning with regards to the main lights. Same for the tail lights.. Mine are on backwards.. (I dunno either, so don't ask). Will be fitting them properly, and measured correctly from body edges.

So, it's all happening..

regards

Alan

Hey Alan

I might have a steering wheel for you
My uncle made a wheel from an old racing cars wooden wheel in the '60s. He saved the wooden trim and made a metal insert.
You could have a new metal design cut to your liking and install the wood trim.

Let me know if you keen
