Seems the forum is getting less and less traffic which is really disappointing.

Anyway, on Thursday I took my Westy to a panel beater to give it the final coat of paint and buff. Waiting in anticipation to get it back within a month.
He is busy with a Land Rover and will alternate as he gets time. Luckily I know him and he lives and works around the corner so I could go and check progress.

You’ve done most of the hard work required to make your bus beautiful. The panelbeater will do the last bit and get all of the credit.

On the forum traffic - I think there’re lots of people checking in daily, hoping to see posts, yet hardly anybody actually posts anymore, which is a mystery. I’m just a typical un-trained classic car tinkerer who plugs away in my garage at my own pace, but like to read about air-cooled projects/info others have, no matter the skill level. There’s always something to learn.

The cold winter and other non-car stuff is currently keeping me out of the garage, but I’ll soon continue with my project thread. The main reason is for keeping a record for future caretakers of the car. The secondary reason is to share my experiences with like minded people.

I’ve joined the Samba because there is a great variety and a lot of traffic, but I enjoy reading local South African content much more, because I can identify with it.

Thank you, I think you are right about the traffic. At least it is not only this forum but a lot of forums in general.

Me thinks its a number of reasons,

Cold weather, repercussions of Covid 19 as well as the economy,

Funds are not that available to pump into toys, when the family has needs and the future jobs are not known to be secure.

But the only way to overcome these issues is to push ahead and not to become despondent.

I use my time in the workshop to keep my mind off the unpleasant things and get back to the family in a better frame of mind to help them to get over these things.

So be happy and work on a ugly project to make it all better......

Be safe and be cheerful, everybody will gain by it...

I see in your signature you are looking for some parts. Front engine tin, is this the plate that seals to body below fuel tank? The kombi one is different to a beetle.

Now the fun work starts or rather has already started.
She is looking more and more like a proper bus again.

I would consider to swap to a single port. Firstly the twinport doesn't belong in a 1970 bus, but they also perform poorly. A single port is far more suitable in a bus. Its also way more drivable across the rev range. You also wont have the notorious issues that come with twin ports like cracking cylinder heads and painfully irritating carbs that struggle to idle or have flat spots.
