Well, the last few days has kept me fairly busy. 1 step forward, 2 steps back..... the usual story.

I decided I need to make a plan with my exhaust. The one I had on, sticks out so far and the silencer hangs to low that the car wont get onto the local (Jesse Hugget) dyno. So I opted to fit my other exhaust and prep for the dyno run. And even if it does get onto the dyno, I am sure some miserable cop somewhere will have something to say and issue me with a fine or three.

I get the old exhaust off, remove the oil lines to and from my filter so I can fit the new exhaust. Trial fit the new exhaust. Perfect fit!!!
So I go to get my gaskets and find only 3. So I spend half a day driving around going to the spares and exhaust places looking for the gasket I have, armed only with a sample. Yes, the hole in the centre is larger than stock, so stock gaskets wont work.
I eventually find a set, old stock that is actually a VW part.

Come back home, fit the exhaust header.
Fit the oil lines again... damn, they hit the exhaust. Not good.
Remove the lines and make them shorter so I can bend them past the header as needed. All good, but I am still not happy.
Exhaust off again.
Spend 5 hours fitting exhaust insulating wrap which I sourced from the USA a few months ago.
Then the wrap needed to be painted with a special silicone sealant spray.
Fitted the exhaust again.

Then once again, fitted the oil lines.
Still not 100% happy with the oil hoses, so I wrap them in thermal wrap too.

Now that I am happy, its time to start getting the car ready to start....
remove spark plugs.
remove rockers
swing over engine until I get oil pressure.
install plug and rockers again
set valve clearances

Now I am ready.
start priming the fuel system.
Start to get fuel squirting out of the pump jets and just as I am about to start the engine.... the fuel pump stops.
Cant get the fuel pump going again.
Am gatvol!!!

I'll try tomorrow I'll remove the pump and see what my options are....

a couple of pics of the oil lines and the eye candy exhaust

Check the finish of the silencer

Audi A8 filter, with oil temp and oil pressure senders installed.

Oil lines leaving and entering the case. Straight shot out at the bottom is the oil leaving the pump on the way to the filter. 90deg bend is the filtered oil going back into the case.

none yet, the engine has maybe 30 minutes on it and maybe 20 meters travelled.

also couldnt believe the hardware the silencer was supplied with.... grade 12.9 bolts. I have never seen hardware of that grade before and now it gets supplied with an exhaust....
Yes it is pricey, but I have been putting parts together for this engine since 2001 when I bought the pistons and carbs

I know the feeling "ditto"
At least you have a running motor mine is still in boxes, since 2003/2004
Easy does it, Rome wasn't built in a day.
