No problem, I'll let him know, as soon as mine is done, I'll take it over so that he can make the 2nd one.

We'll organise payment through me as I'm supplying him with the fibreglass as his prices including the glass put it up another R100. I think that you should organise a drive up here sometime.

I'm going to be placing another order through Jim on a few more items as well, so let me know if you want to include any items.

I'll measure tonight as well so we can compare.

Also got a MAJOR update this morning, Willem has a slot open for my car tomorrow night, this is great news, cause I was waiting for this before anything else could be done.

This means that the other (proper) bumper can be fixed, the body can be prepped for paint as well as the gauges in the dash, radio removed, dash pad remade as well as a few other lieelt things.

After that.......................paint.

3 colours that I'm considering.

- Keep it Silver
- Arrest me Red
- Ivory.

I was hoping that I had at least another few months to decide on the colour.

Hey Baron

My steering wheel looks almost the same as that, ford unit, but once done it'll look almost identical.

Update:

The car was dropped off last night at Willem who reckons about 3 weeks to get the things done that I want done to it. This includes.

- Proper Speedster dash pad, this involves a seperate bubble over the gauges that has to mount via screws from the back in order to get the look that I want. This this has to be so so straight as there is no padding on it, it's fibreglass and then leather over the top.

Image

- Minor little cracks and things that are bugging me on the shell.
- New front bumper supports as well as new supports for my marchel spot lights and badges
- Gauges mounted properly and radio filled, Cigarette light hole filled.
- New rear lock on the engine lid that is hidden, (probably going to get a beetle bonnet lock if I dont' come right.
- remove all of the tacky reflectors & fill up the beehive tailights and fit the tear-drops

All of this done over the weekends only should take about 3 weeks, then it's prep for another week and spray.

An update of sorts: 24-05-2008

Went to go have a look see what's happening on my car on Saterday morning and I'm pleased to say that even though WIllem is only mucking around on Saterday's, he's making good progress.

Image

Now in order to properly mount the type 3 gauage, he's made these wicked clips out back that will allow the gauges to clip into them, but also easy to remove if the need be. These rings will be mounted behind the dash and have to be cut in order to fit around various parts on the back of the dash.

Image

Image

Next to close up here is the radio hole and then sort out the dash pad, this is going to look awesome, I'm sure that Willem thinks that I'm a bit too fussy with how I want it, but hey the customer is king.......lol.

Image

The back looking all bare with no bumper, he wanted to see what he had to do in order to get the front bumper mounted as solid as the back one. The licenence plate mounts are going, the reflectors are going, the licence plate light is going as I want the porsche one that goes underneath.

Image

The original front bumper that's busy being repaired so that it can be fitted back on the car.

Image

Image

On the front it's just the reflectors that have to go and then we have to find a decent way to mount the bumper.

After this coming weekend, all of the fibreglass work should be done, Willem said that he's going to push this thing through BIGTIME. Glassing of the dash, bumpers, radio hole, dash pad, light fittings, engine bay lock, bonnet lock, everything including the battery mount out back should be done.

Stay tuned for updates, after 2 weeks at Willem, it'll be off for paint, Even though the 2.0 won't be done, the car should be cosmetically finished for cars in the park.........2 months and a few days.

Got some killer news just now. I go over Saterday morning to start stripping the car, engine out and everything else off the car, cause Willem's going to be done this weekend with what he has to do and the painter can take over, that's a week earlier and also he gave me his price.

Now bear in mind this is paint included............R2200-00.

I feel that I'm being ripped off............ :D :D :D :D

I was told that the car is in killer condition and that there is almost no prep work on the body as Willem is doing 90% of it included in his price for all the smaller mods. This means that that my car should be back end of June and that allows me a full month to get it put back together for cars in the park. (that should take the better part of a weekend). Interior excluded.

Final colour by the way is Ivory - Reutter # 504/ Porsche # 5404

Man I'm getting fired up now........

Looking good!

If you don't have one yet, the Hella license plate lights fitted to the 'fintail' Mercedes cars (late 50's, early 60's) are exactly the same.
