I would say the cars are much more that R250m. For example, there is the only DB2 convertible ever made, an Enzo, F50 & F40 in a row. One of only 500 Maclaren (the proper road version not the race one), 3 x 250GT - 1 of only 3 hardtops by special tuning company (sorry can't remember the name), and the only 250GT convertible LWB still left in the world. There was also a gullwing.......and that's the modern stuff....It's well worth a visit but they change the cars totally around each month so no VW's this month.
and also couple of other rides

when was the last time u saw one of these

Congratulations Dutch! Now your Split can go to REAL vw shows over there, where there is a proper scene and not one where there are so many politics like here...

Re: '65 - Split bus resto....my project
So Mo gas been dropped off for her test but there is work to do before that can happen. The twin 36 carbs are going on, electric fuel pump with regulator, play in steering gone, passenger door handle needs fixing, etc, etc.
Won't go for test until end of next week at the earliest but I will keep you all posted on progress but I have a feeling Mo's going to put up a fight

Re: '65 - Split bus resto....my project
So today I heard that Mo has finally passed the UK MOT test after 4 failures and after a total replacement of everything under the floor!
Grant the mechanic, says the bill will take a while as it's a complicated one
The four tests cost £200 +vat and that's before he adds all the new parts, labour and vat.....
At least it's before vat goes up here in the UK otherwise it would cost me additional 3% on top of everything!
I have a feeling the baby my have to go without nappies
Can't tell Mrs DD

Re: '65 - Split bus resto....my project
I wish......not this is only the first part of the paperwork.
Tomorrow I have to licencing office to get them to check and approve the paperwork for submission. Then they need to inspect the vehicle (strange as the same department does the MOT testing), then I have to wait & pay some money, then if all OK, I get my registration documents to make up the numberplates and get tax disc.
The I can hit the shows! Sounds like SA only I hope slightly quicker!

Re: '65 - Split bus resto....my project
List.....
1) Rear brakes in-effective (rear drums too thin and cylinders leaking) all needed to be replaced
2) Front brakes 20% umder required braking force
3) Play in the steering
4) Outer rear wheel bearings
5) Reduction box bearings including internals (don't ask me how they check that, but one side needed a new reduction box as the bearing had killed it)
6) Passenger outside door handle does not open door
7) No water in the washer bottle
Incorrect seatbelts
9) To much Toe-in on rear wheels (Calm down Vader, that's how straight the wheel are nothing to do with women)
10) forgotten the rest

Re: '65 - Split bus resto....my project
So I have lost my sense of humour and before any of you complain again about cost of living in SA.....remember this post
So Mo got through the MOT but I want to share with you the invoice from the garage.....
I just wish I had known Jurgen & Esme from the beginning! Bobbie was Jurgen's work and it only needed water in the washer bottle to pass the UK test.
Mo on the other hand, was done by Brian of Volksie World.....picture of the face on page 2 of this thread. I'm not going into any accusations I'll just let you read today list!
Now remember the exchange rate is around 11 to 1 for that.....$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I'm not pointing any fingers, but it seems as if some real shoddy work has been done on your Bus in the past. Why does SA have such crap levels of service - Quote "mastic or the like, parts/bearings missing"???!

At least the UK guys were honest with you and now everything done will make Bobby run like a dream again

Re: '65 - Split bus resto....my project
Blitz....just to be clear.....The bus was not done by Jurgen! His work is floorless in my eyes!
I do agree...the restoration of Mo ("The Bus") cost be over R70,000 in SA and then another R32,000 ish to get it through a UK test!
As said many times on this forum. Find a great mechanic and stick to them, and don't complain about paying what they ask as in the end, it's worth it!

Makes for scary reading Frank. Glad at least now it is sorted.
Think Blitz meant MO, but he was rushing out to work on the fasty and typed bobby instead
