I really like the fan you have on the cooler. Looks like a superbike radiator fan.

I would assume that you are still running the stock cooler as well?

Not a shabby idea, Mine is in a similar position BUT on the other side of the box and higher up. Think I like your idea more than mine of just placing a deflector plate and pushing some cool air up to it. Then again my oil temp sits at 110 which is alright except for the fact that my fan runs almost constantly which is not so great. Would be good to know if you fan turns off while driving "normally"...

110 oil temp is pretty high. On the #170 race bug we seldom see over 95'c after a 8 lap sprint race

So long as it is under 120 I am generally fine with it. But I will do some modifications at some point and make an enclosed aluminium housing and all that, not focused on the beetle right now. The Vee was at 90 -95 degree's though over the weekend but was not being thrashed as such.

An old Aero guy I ran across last year that built and maintained Type 1 aircraft engines said he always tried to get the oil temp over 100 degrees in the initial part of the flight in order to make sure it drove any moisture out of the system and then he would bring it down to around 90 -95 degrees for the remainder of the flight. He swore by this.

Nice place Tony my charge cooler radiator sit the same but on the right side. My oil cooler is on the left but upright with a ducting under the rear seat.

I want to go to George someday soon, pity its so far!

Have not had much time lately to work on the bug. Small building project at home is taking much longer than anticipated. Problem is that I dont want the builders looking into my garage in case they take a liking to my tools and parts.... so some days I only get in 5 minutes, other days I get an hour. But nothing of any major consequence.

I am thinking that I am understanding why this project seems to take so long. I'll do something and then not be entirely happy with it, so I'll spend time making it the way I'd like it.
My new timing gear is a prime example.

So after installing this lot, I decided that it would be nicer if I polished them.... so I went about polishing them
Sometimes I made good progress, other times I didnt, yesterday for example, I got to work for 2min before I had to stop
So about a week later, this is the result








Once again, this is one of those things that really isnt necessary and no-one would think otherwise if it wasnt polished. But I did it for me as one of those touches that someone might see or might not. I see it and thats what counts....

Have you still got the Gotech ecu on the engine? If so they are full of shit with magnetic sensors... you might have to end off with a air gap of 0.3mm or less in order for the ecu to pick up. I am using the same trigger wheel from CB, but with a BMW hall effect sensor.

I actually pulled out the Gotech for the CB crank trigger kit, its currently sitting in a box in my cupboard
I initially wanted to install the different wheel purely so that I can change pulleys - as you know, the other wheel was bolted to the pulley. Then i decided to add a vacuum signal to the system, so got the CB kit for that too as it was easiest.
Then I changed my mind and decided to do the whole CB system so I can tune from my laptop and not solely from a PC - 3 serial to USB cables later and I still cant connect an XP laptop to the Gotech ECU.

I'll give you feedback as it goes. I find the dashboard easier to use, but they dont have a fuel pump OFF function which doent override the ON function. I'll be fitting another relay to the oil pressure light for this...
