Re: Betty the Oval - Donovan D - ex-MINCE
Some info on this:
On the "crank-arm" part that exits the motor unit there should be a number stamped. Something like "21.3" or "21-5".
This refers to the parking position and stroke/length of that "crank-arm". Some years of oval production had one of the wiper arms bent slightly different than the other one. This unit had a different number stamped on the motor's "crank-arm", as it slightly affected the parking position/stroke of the wipers. Obviously RHD units would park different than LHD, so code numbers from USA internet sites would differ.
If you cannot find a complete wiper assembly from an oval, maybe try to modify one from a 58-63 beetle. You may have to shorten the crank-arms, modify it's park position, modify connecting links, etc. And obviously shorten wiper arms as the upper part of an oval's windscreen is much lower.
By the way, the interior of an oval beetle feels noticeably cooler than that of a late beetle in hot sunny weather. Especially if you fit good, thick roof-insulation, have slightly tinted side/rear windows, and the car is a light colour. (All the windows of an oval are smaller than 65-onwards).

Re: Betty the Oval - Donovan D - ex-MINCE
The split motor differs from the oval motor.
Here is the split one:

Might be getting a complete motor assembly for the oval in the next week or two. Holding thumb that its the correct one.

Re: Betty the Oval - Donovan D - ex-MINCE
The rear of the oval needs a lot of work which I will hopefully be tackling within the next few days.
I bolted on the fenders and decklid just to see how everything lines up before removing the rear valance and fixing the surrounding areas. The way it is now was covered by putty so I still need to fix all of this. Seems that it had a rear smash sometime during its life.

I also noticed that at the top area where the decklid sits is a lip on the one side but not the other side.
It does not seem that these areas had work done, should there be a lip or should it be flush ? Could be that the one without the lip might have been cut off. Still so much work ahead

Managed to get a complete wiper motor assembly, still on the hunt for an indicator stalk unit.
Anybody have any ideas where I and how I can mount this rev counter ?

Re: Betty the Oval - Donovan D - ex-MINCE
When I used one of those rev counters, I mounted it under the dash near the ashtray. It wasnt in the way and I didnt have to cut into the dash itself, but rather 2 small holes above my knees. With yours however, you;ll need to make a mount too, mine had one.

Re: Betty the Oval - Donovan D - ex-MINCE
Seeing that it's an oval, (more space above sunvisor, as roof-edge is sloping down further than late models):
You might consider making a little plate to fit some gauges above sunvisor, especially if that's the smaller 52mm gauge.
For a baywindow application, the 80mm size is ideal as this fits where the de luxe models have a clock.

You do not need the RPM all the time, only to get used to the sound of the motor.
Put it in the glove box with a neat bracket to the side so you can see it with the glove box door open.
When not used, its out of sight.
