progress has been slow and hampered by the recent discovery of a seatcover who cant get enough of me...

I have so far had all the hoses off to check for blockages - none found.
Drained the oil and removed the add-on sump to allow access to the pressure relief valve - valve moves freely.
Re-assembled everything.
changed the oil filter for good measure - this one was less than 100km old but it got changed out anyway - cheap insurance.

Lots more thinking pushed me towards considering that my additional oil piping, new cooler and thermostat could be to blame. The minute you add more piping and any bends, the pumping losses increase... so I could have unwittingly added bits on to the point where once the thermostat was fully opened, the 26mm pump was unable to supply the demands of the engine.
Yesterday I removed the 26mm oil pump and installed my 30mm oil pump. Then when I went to swing the engine over to check for pressure, I was greeted with a flat battery.
Today I swung the engine over until I got pressure and started the car. Fired up immediately and pressure under idle with cold oil rose to 2.5bar. At 2000rpm its now sitting at just over 3 bar.

Tomorrow is test drive day.... hold thumbs.

For those who are interested... this is how a oil pump differs in size.... the gears are longer.
On left the gears are 30mm, on right, they are 26mm

And if anyone ever wondered where the oil level sits in the sump and how long it takes for the oil pump to get suction.... here is your answer

That's good news Tony!
Makes me a bit worried though, as I want to add an exterenal oil cooler to the bay. Does this mean I'll have to change the pump as well?

No idea... trial and error?

Lucky you :D normaly with such a drop in oil pressure it means plenty $$$$.
BTW Its the usual story, when :flash: comes along the hobby goes for a ball of :bn:

I know... Plenty nerves yesterday when swinging the engine over for oil pressure before startup. Engine turned free but that doesnt mean it hasnt picked up some bits of bearing....

One hobby for another.... ;-)

Took the car for a run today. Stopping regularly to check for oil leaks - seems good at the moment.
30 minutes with the odd bit of windgat... car depserately needs a dyno session.

I just dropped the car off at Jesse to get dynoed. Lets see if she survives the dyno session...

Oil pressure is def much better, with about 1.5bar at idle when warm where it was about 0.6 before in the same situation after similar driving.
