Re: 1.5 KCC 356 Porsche Speedster
Oh man what a weekend.
Got some serious work done on the speedy with Dirk. Friday saw us finally get the beam done, this involved cutting another beam that I had picked up and then inserting the select a drops welding one in at a time, then doing the whole lot over again for the lower beam.
I got quotes to do this ranging from R400-00 to R800-00 and as I wanted to do as much as possible on the car, I decided to listen to Dirk and get a local exhaust shop to do the work, I mean damn, they cut pipes all of the time. The guy that did this cut it with a angle grinder, but he really knew his stuff, so I was happy, nice clean cuts, nice tight fits as well.

The quality of these adjusters is freaking top notch. Thanks go to Rui (calooker) for organising these for me. I got these a while ago and it was nice to start actually mounting stuff onto the car for a change than just packing it away in a box. I paid R450-00 for both adjusters sent to my door which I think is a great price. I paid a further R120-00 to have them welded in. I wanted Co2 otherwise I would have done them myself.
The beam out and checking some clearance issues that we may have. What we are going to be doing at the end of the day is to make an inspection plate behind where the battery will be in the front of the car as getting to the adjusters from under the car is a bit of a mission. The lower bump that the KCC speedsters have for the spare wheel will also be removed as the car cannot be towed with an a-frame thanks to this.

Taking the plates out has to be one of the dirtiest jobs that I've ever done on a car..........they were packing in a TONNE of grease and damn I was half expecting to see a camera behind my head filming new material for "Dirty Jobs".

Re: 1.5 KCC 356 Porsche Speedster
The section inside the front of the car that we had to cut out so that the adjuster could pop through, this is where we're going to make an inspection plate so that we can adjust these from inside the car, even though this sin't going to happen all the time. It's nice to make things a bit more accessable.

Die geraasmaker. I got this from Merlin a while ago and it served it's purpose for what I needed it for. But it was just too boomy for me, so thanks to Fig, I managed to get actually a pretty nice stock exhaust that I can use until the new engine is done.

The man himself doing some work.

Now we had another minor issue, when we removed the brakes, I found this, one of the shoes had been bent by being wither put in correctly or just slipping out.
I pulled the adjusters and cleaned them and this seems to have sorted out my brake issue that I had. This won't stay like this for long though as my disc kit will be going on as soon as I have the new motor under the hood.

I guess you lot want to see the final stance of this days hard work.

I am totally blown away..........it's taken the nose down a good 50mm and we still have a bit more of the adjusters to adjust if I wanted it lower, but the rake that the car has at the moment rocks. I love it. As you see it's dark outside and if any of you know where Dirks shop is, then it's not a nice place to be after dark. We got done at about 9 that night after working from 2pm.
Dirk got to drive my car back home for me with no plates and he must have been passed by about 4 cop cars and none stopped to give him grief, in fact 2 of them gave him the thumbs-up. This car got SO MANY looks and all of them good, no rear deck lid was mounted, no front bumper, no plates..............pure hot-rod style if you ask me.

Re: 1.5 KCC 356 Porsche Speedster
Just a quick summary of what we did and a few smaller jobs that didn't get mentioned.
The whole car was re-wired. Dirk really did an amazing job with this and I actually paid him a little extra because I was so impressed with his work.

He worked very neatly and redid everything on the car. As the old fuse box was shot and really old, I asked him to replace it. He worked this into the price for me and my car now has a newer fuse box, with covers and blade fuses.

It's also mounted in a spot where I can actually change a fuse in the future.
I asked Dirk to make a few lines longer as they were going to be mounted in other places. Like the spot lights, headlights, wipers and eventually the ignition. The bonnet up front will be painted again, once the spare wheel mount and the battery tray is mounted in there. I want to keep this car clean as a whole and not just have one or two nice features about it.
I started mounted badges and trim on Sunday and was limited by the wife as to how much time I could spend doing this.

Some of them will have to be mounted again like the porsche script on the nose as I didn't get the bend 100% right and one side has started popping off. But it's 99% there. Both speedster scripts are on as well as the super 1600 and both of the porsche scripts front and back, the back simply looks the tits and when my new shine-up licence plate light arrives, it'll look even better.

I'm actually thinking of getting the back down a tad, but I'll decide that after cars in the park.

Re: 1.5 KCC 356 Porsche Speedster
Jobs that still remain this week:
1) drill the holes in the dash for the lights, spots and wipers
2) mount the porsche logo on the dash
3) mount the last 2 caps on the rear bumper and do the final attachment on the bumper so it's secure.
4) Clean the windsreen as get rid of all of the old sticker marks on the screen.
5) Hopefully. hopefully, HOPEFULLY get a set of alli spacers from WIllem so that I can mount the front bumper on and get the trim mounted as well.
6) Mount the rear engine lid as well as attaching the 4 spacer nipples that have to go on.
7) Get my rear valence to Willem so he can finish off a few small marks and also get Rabid's one back. Hopefully also get it mounted.
This will pretty much be done in order to get the car half presentable at cars in the park. No interior will be done yet as well as no carpets. But then again, none of that will be done anyway until the engine and gearbox is done.
Stay tuned.

Re: 1.5 KCC 356 Porsche Speedster
Thanks guys.
Kev, this thing blows me away everytime I do something else on it, stand back and take it in. I'm sure that yours will be ace as well man, remember about 1-1.5 years ago before Abby was born, my car also stood for a while before anything was done. The first few months are a bit rough, but after that when a routine gets in place with the little one, it'll free up some time for the gonz, trust me.
Bugger...........you have to see it in person, the colour looks even better.

Nice work, G! In a strange turn of things, the seats that were originally in your Speedster came my way. Actually only the fibreglass shells. If I can find someone to upholster them nicely, they are going to the buggy..

Pine, the seats that are in the speedy at the moment are the ones that came with it, I'm looking out for something else, but will probably stay with these. If I can get hold of Greg and get that set from him for my car, then I think that we can talk as I'll have an extra set.Pine wrote:Nice work, G!
