Nice meeting you dsan. Thanks for the mag, it was very much in demand as there were quite a few guys who wanted to read it, simply because it isn't available here
So movement with the '59, albeit slow due to me not being in SA to pressure the guys in working faster.
All rust cut out and imperfections welded out. Also welded up trim holes as this car won't have any chrome trim
Hopefully goes to first coat of primer next week.
Just a note on those trim holes that are welded up. With the heat put into the panel, it IS deformed. So you need some SERIOUS preparation/finishion(is that even a word?) for them NOT to show up through the final coat. They have a nasty habbit to eventually start showing in time! You have to knock them back a little(like in denting them) and then finish them off with lead filling, NOT putty. This is just how I would do it, so dont pay attention to me
yeah that was my initial thought as well, i did explain this to the guy and he agreed he'd spend extra time ensuring it was done correctly
if it's not, there will be no final payment to him and he doesn't get to restore my other cars.
I love the clean look and always felt that the chrome was a cheaper way to inject some luxury into the bug's, who at the time weren't known as a luxury brand.
