What ya'll think?
I am thinking of subscribing to vw campervan & commercial for 6 issues. Going to cost about R65 an issue. How about a host of different people subscribing to different magazines and them swapping them after reading? 41 yes replies to the poll means people to want acvw magazines!

swopping is cool, but what if you dont have anything to swop with. rather a small fee by the second, third, fourth and so on person to the original buyer. on that way his initial cost is covered. depending how far the mag goes he could make a profit.
the million zim dollar q is how is this gonna work

Right gents and ladies.

Here's the deal.

You may email your photos and articles to:

I will take the time and make the effort to compile the lot into a first-edition electronic magazine.

Please begin the subject of your mail with "MAG".
I would prefer it if you send the article and photos separately, I.E. don't plonk the photos into a word document, don't bother with article format, that's the job of an editor. Please take care to zip your photos into one file and where you refer to photos in your article, please make editorial reference to the file name of the photo.

If you want your article to be considered for the first edition, please have it in my inbox no later than 00h00 31 May 2010.
All things considered, I would like to publish the first edition by the end of June 2010.

If you wish to advertise in the first edition, you may do so free of charge... IF YOU SUBMIT IT IN ELECTRONIC FORMAT.
Seeing as this is an electronic magazine, you are free to decide the size and format of your add. I do however reserve the
right to either publish or not. If I choose not to publish you will be notified with reason. You may use the email address already
mentioned, but please begin the subject of your mail with "MAG-ADV".

Sorry if I'm raining on anyone's parade here, but I have wanted an SA specific mag on automotive-restoration for quite a while, and to be rather forward about it; I'm tired of waiting so I'll kick start it any way I can.

I'm looking forward to your articles.

like the idea Dirk!!

but I have wanted an SA specific mag on automotive-restoration for quite a while,

are youu staying ACVW specific, or all aspects?

There's some really edgy online mags around. One of my faves:

To answer your question Barry; No, it will not be ACVW specific, but it will have a strong bias towards the ACVW community, for now.

As for advertising, I would like to keep it SA specific. I see no reason for advertising something like CIP1. They are already all
over the show, but people like Dave are hardly known outside the Flat Four Racing scene.

Here's the basic layout for now:

1. Letters to the Editor.

2. News and Events:
Coverage of recent news and events around the country.

3. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly:
This section will focus on one project. Telling the story of that project, and the project owners.
To qulify for this section, the project must be complete!
Project owners are encouraged to write their own articles.

4. How to:
This is where solutions will go to print. Enlisting the aid of those who have actually solved common problems.
NO! This will not be a "How to hotrod your engine" section. There are many sources for that kind of thing.
This section is for things like:
- How to make your own one-man break bleeder (I've already written this article)
- Replacing the gear rod sleave on an ACVW.
- Electrical trouble shooting...
- Dealing with rust!
i.e. This is the section where you get assistance with the crappy problems. The things that are not covered in the Haynes manuals
and don't find their way into other magazines, because they deal with the mundane, rather than the stuff that sells printed media.

Effectively this is the "Mend and Make do, rather than buy new" section. How to sort something that is as good as new or allows you a chance to get the cash/time/space
to do it right!

5. Back of mag adverts.

6. The Last word.
Editor's "last words" on the current issue.

There is a little over 3 weeks left for submissions.

Those of you who want to submit articles, now is the time to get cracking. You won't make it if you start a week before the dead line.
Get your photos and general story sorted within the next 7 days.
Spend the second week getting your essay sorted and then send it to me.

A word on article length:

There are currently no restrictions. I do however reserve the right to split an article over multiple issues, if I deem it is too long.
If it's to short, I reserve the right to waffle your article into something a little more meaty.

Dirk, Can you take existing Project threads from the site to create some of the articulate or are we looking at new stuff?

Existing project threads are fine.

My only criteria for the Good, Bad and Ugly section, is that the project must be complete.

You must be done!

And I don't want to hear only the technical stuff!

In your article I expect to read about at least one incident where your partner either threatened or actually did leave!
I want to read about the personal anguish when you missed your first "dead line" and you better tell me all about the
pain you felt when you chose to buy food rather than a new carb-gasket set.
Of course I wouldn't mind reading about you choosing to get a new carb-gasket set, rather than feeding the kids, either.
Perhaps you got creative and fed the kids the old carb-gasket? Who knows... but I want those gory bits!!!

That is why the section is called the Good, Bad and Ugly!

Our readers want to know about the SNOT & TRANE, BLOOD & BRUSES!

That is why your project MUST BE COMPLETED!
You have to be able to end the article, demonstrating that, at the very least, you got the satisfaction of having completed it,
even if it wasn't everything you wished for!

:D

Pictures!

I want full sized originals. Not the 100kB variety that you can post on the site.

So you better break out those 10 megapixel cameras you lucky sods got for xmas last year!
Time to put them to good use!

If you can't e-mail me your pictures, because of size, then get them to me using the post office and a CD/DVD with your pictures on it.

Please make sure to write your name on it!!!!!!!!! So I don't end up mixing projects and people up.
