i intend to have the car finished for vw action next year and volksworld have been regularly coming over and taking photos as its been rebuilt .vw audi car magazine did a 4 page article on my car many years ago as it was so unique . so when it does get printed i will enjoy all the appologies that will be due
good bye
Hahaha. Clutch is a rank, not a username. And if my writing, punctuation and grammar were as bad as yours I wouldn't be calling anyone else an idiot.
So now your car is unique? Then it wouldn't be one of 50. I think I agree with you; it is unique, most likely a once-off conversion by a PO, maybe even for rallying.
Enjoy all all the limelight of magazine articles; we're happy for you. But don't hold your breath for apologies ...

I just realised where the Kombi brakes came in LOL
when VW upgraded the cars for the 68 model year they went with wider brake shoes and long rear axles (the rest of the world got IRS and discs four bolt) as SA beetles soldiered on with 5 bolt hubs, the hubs were made wider in the rear. Around 73 a different design of front stubaxle was employed utilising different inner bearings (much larger) the brake drums were modified as well having a cast rib on the out side. in about 75 the design was modified again to include a nut as used by the european bugs (it locked with an allen key) as these drums are substantially heavier than the earlier 5 bolt hubs someone not familiar with SA beetles could assume a modification. the funny part All sa beetles came like this post 73

How unhelpful of you to only have this realisation now, Armand.

to prove some one has seen the car in the uk and when i get round to posting the pics on my local site i will let you know
as for the car you looked at its very different to mine as mine has green armourfloat glass ( little emblem etched in to the corners ) exept the windscreen which was broken and was replaced with a green tint top as per original but not armoufloat . steering wheel cntr is different and gear stick seems to sit much further forwards ( gear stick is cranked backwards on mine) interior mine has the horrible yellow and black tartan cloth panels ( men at vw must have been blind ) and dash instumantion is slightly different . i think the gauges that should be fitted under the dash have been incorperated in to the dash.

Some comments from Volkszone by 1600SP....
it will be when ive finally restored it , ive been at it for 8 years lol . unfortunatly when vw built it they put it together out of whatever they could to make it as good as it could be . hence the theo decker engine (engine no 44631 no prefix ) type 2 drums for better brakes etc etc hence when going to get spares its been a case of take the old part off go to cool air and say can i have one of these dont know what its from just want one to match lol even the blood throttle cable is 3" shorter due to the decker linkage . gearbox gaitors had a nightmare with couldnt find any vw one to match ended up getting a local garage to fit some cool silicon universal ones which are great as they dont have those stupid bolts down the side .
the car itself is almost ready for paint appart from the fiberglass parts now then its rewire and put back together time
This is my favourite comment:

O-kay so a stock engine for a 1600 SP could rev to 7.5k rpm.........WTF???!

... hence the theo decker engine (engine no 44631 no prefix )
All SA-built engines had SF prefix, followed by the regular prefix. This sounds like a custom built engine.
Where does this guy get his info from? 7.5k rpm and 125mph in a stock Beetle???

the engine number wasnt taken from the car but from the vw delivery paperwork
i can see why the south africans are classed as arrogant accross the rest of the planet , they are allways right lol
all my info was checked via vw uk contacting archives in SA . i have the full spec of all the std SP1600 's ,and 5 race versions were built , your alledged expert will of course know of the one in japan who i have spoke to which matches mine exactly as to the other 3 god only knows .
i only ever joined this forum to try and find some help getting some minor parts and if help was provided then i would have given all the info i had . As a result of your making such a scene you have brought the sp's to the attention of one of the companies exporting cars from south africa via one of your own forum members , as a result i have had a call today from the company confirming that 2 are coming to the uk ( one is a crash damaged black )
so who has lost out in the end !!!!
