Having had the experience of being retrenched I kind of understand - and it is not pleasant at all. I found it degrading in a way. Keep on looking for empoyment oppurtunities even though there may be times when it looks like nothing is happening. Perhaps look at doing your own thing? Perhaps you should phone the department of UIF and see exactly what it is you need to register. I am sure you can claim from UIF for 6 months if your company was doing the right thing and contributing to UIF that is.
Perhaps others will know more and be able to offer up to date info.
I wish you all the best. :)

I will be looking at doing my own thing as I have experience in the building industry as well. The only problem is money and TRANSPORT for starters. Looking into steelwork as well.

Only 2 days to go and you know what? I am starting to look forward to that as I haven't taken any leave for 4 years. Maybe I will get some things done now.

Good news. Maybe all hope is not lost yet. As we did not receive our retrenchment notice yet, we are still on the payroll. Boss contacted me today. Must be in rustenburg on Wednesday to determine if they could apply me as a field service technitian on water purification plants. With vast experience in a wide field of applications, I am sure this is something I will be able to do. So guys and gals please hold thumbs for me. This will mean that I will spend a lot of time away from home, but at least it will put bread on the table for my family, as well as supply the funds for my projects. Wish me luck as I will need it! :D

After being so misrable last year, things are starting to go better for me.Still got a limited budget to work on the bay ,but who needs money to get thingds going? I finally found an engine and gearbox for my bay, so things will get going. Slowly but surely. This is what I have done so far on a limited budget!
