So four months have passed since I last posted , feel almost ashamed ! Got busy with bigger projects ( building accomodation in my backyard) and am now starting to see the light behind the endless tunnel. I started last sunday with stripping all the good bits off both the beetles , Also started removing part of the wiring loom .Have started opening up the rust spots and painting with rust converter just to slow the process down a bit .Also I have removed the glass I needed from the donor and temporarily placed it onto the project car to avoid water damage as she is still standing next to the garage. Anybody know where I can get new rubbers for the popout windows of a 1600s ?

pics to follow shortly

Have tried Pro auto rubber, but their stuff does not seal, I got all my Type 3 rubber from http://www.vwispwest.com Their rubber is pre set for the corners, soft, and fits like a glove, seals 1st time every time,

So I got half the wiring loom out of the beetle, when I discovered that is going to be easier to remove the engine before removing the rest of the loom. Took some random pics , more to follow. Also noticed that there is no number punched on the chassis , just a pop riveted plate on the front of the body.

Does anyone know if the beetle came out with retractable safety belts? Because my donor beetle has them in. Dont worry pics to follow ....... just wish the weather would play with , had to postpone a lot of work due to weather
