After the dust settled from the Applwewood day I have gathered myself and now we start with the Manx

Managed to score 2 15 widened and 1 14 widened and 1 14 narrow RossStyle rims today will get the other 14 wide tommorow as it is still on the okes beeetle
this was for the large amount of 300 ZAR

Got the production paper, fibre and resin so we will start with the body sanding down and fix the dings
Pan up on the stand so still need to cut out the vrot piece and fill it in from the donar pan
Like the Bugger and Pine repairs to pan but will take the short cut for now
I do like the strenth component that the newer job has so will fashion something that goes in under the lip to make it more rigid

Have cleared all the boxes from the beetle and Bay job so there is a bit more space
Do know you all like dem pictures but bat flat so will charge and get some shots in the morning

Here they are Manx on bins and a Mini Moke aswell
Do realy like them Rossis - do need some attention but hey I got them
The resin work is minimal on the body only realy one crack on the back right and a few holes that were made for the extras
Plan is to start on the body and get it to primer
Will be tempting to put the colour but will wait cause a fair amount of traffic in the workshop and I dont want the paintwork %$^#$&$#$ up
Getting the other rim today then will need to get them to a sandblaster
Think there is a spot on the other side of the hill at Botrivier
Prime and then think about the look

here is the Mini Moke that the bosses son is fixing
Looks like I will finish the bus the beetle and the Manx before he is done

With all the Split things going on I seem to have forgotten about this baby
Mig welder purchase from the weekend will be trialled on the pan repairs
Just need to get some gas - Mag mix -flow meter and a pipe to connect all the bits

Well Franken PAn has been born !!
Had agreat day with the mig
I am loving this machine
Cut out replacement from the donar pan
Test fit and seam the bugger in
Played a bit with the settings of the amps and wire speed
Burnt thru a few times in the beginning but after some tweeks it went like a dream

Not to worried about the roughness but will grind down a bit
Then its rust treatment and cover the whole lot with some rubber

Mig makes life a WHOLE lot easier (even though I hate people to start out with one as it teaches bad habits and can cover a multitude of sins with a pretty looking bead)

Looks like you are trying to run beads, which on thin, corroded metal will often mean you are either running cold, or throwing a lot of filler at it (same nett effect of running cold).
You could try running a series of tacks right next to each other (sorry don't have a pic now). With some practice you can get a good rhythm going and you will be getting a good solid weld. Some machines have a pulse setting for this, but I find doing it manually is easier. Once you find the swing of it you can get something that looks close to TIG and won't need any grinding. I wouldn't worry too much about grinding welds which are going to get undercoated or covered with carpet anyway...

Hard to say for sure, but looks like you might have quite a bit of angle on your torch - you might try keep it more perpindicular. Playing with pulling or pushing also(I use both and tend to change without thinking, just feel, so I can't say when which is best)

Something else: even though Mig will tolerate dirt and rust in the welding zone much better than other processes, clean metal will give better results.

Also if you have bigger gaps to fill, backing up with a piece of copper, brass or ally will help: Pulls excess heat away to prevent burning your metal too much and will leave a (relatively) flat back side.

On another note I have long thought that a Buggy body in polished ally would be sex on wheels. And the Manx is one of the tastiest shapes.......anyone care to commision one?
