Thanx for the welcome, much appr. I did an honourable thing the other day.........

I BOUGHT A BUG

Yeah, my dad bought a SP in '74(i think), and it took me this long to buy my own,
my live evolved around cli's, gti's & 16Valves.
The little bug i bought is a herbie lookalike, and in desperate need of loads of attention.

Howzit...

Just joined and hope to be using the site for much info, so just saying "Howzit"...

I live in Lusaka, Zambia and have just driven my '67 1500 6v up here via Botswana without her missing a beat - she's been with me since I was still able to run a km without collapsing into a stretcher (18 yrs now) and though mechanically sound as ever, starting to show her 43 yrs now - needs some Botox! I thus plan on teaching myself how to go about rebuilding her to repay her loyal service - and immediately find myself searching for tyres! One of my Michelin xzx 165 r15 has just started separating and as the spare is a retreaded 6:50 original, have to locate and get a new set of 4 up here somehow... does anyone have any idea who supplies classic car tyres in SA, and if so would you be kind enough to post the info? I sourced the Michelins quite a while back and am actually hoping they are still available somehow without importing from EU.

Thanks,
Bol.

:welcome: Rex and Bol. Zambia, you will indeed find 165R15 out there. More readily available then in ZA!

Hi, members

Jan Theron here, PhD in chemical engineering, spent 10 yrs in the US, did some work for nasa and us army (aerodynamics), now building and designing wooden canoes and other small watercraft in the Karoo ;-) also starting to put out some feelers for an eventual wooden aircraft build using most likely a VW engine.

Hi all

I am new to the forum, know alittle about Beetles and so on, but can learn so much more from people who knows more than myself.

I am fortunate enough to have received a beetle from my little brother who stays in Uitenhage. The car is in need of serious attention. I still need to get it where I am staying in Witbank though, but am hoping to get it before March, and then I can spend my free time working on it. He is busy repairing, and building a Beach buggy my father owned, so any help, idea's and places to shop for spares are welcome.
