Re: New Members - Introduce yourself..
Hi Everyone,
I'm Francis from Kenya. I really like old cars (currently have a Peugeot 504) and hoping to start WWII with a VW in the stable. Once upon a time mini enthusiast (there is a simmering rivalry between beetle and mini owners here....) owned a total of 4 minis (two clubmans, two round noses).
Now looking at rediscovering German technology....and of course I need something warm to dote over and while the evenings with a cold beer....

Re: New Members - Introduce yourself..
Hello, Everyone!
I learnt to drive in a VW Bug, and have never owned any other car. Work as a library assistant in the town/city of Rustenburg.
My current bug (Goggo) has taken me to the Big City quite often in the past few months. He's a white '75 model bug, handsomely redone and in perfect mechanical condition. I get comments and offers almost daily, but I definitely won't let him go any time soon. Even the local spietkops have stopped waving at us from the front and now rather wave as we go by. I guess they're tired of finding nothing wrong!
My big dream is to take him on a road trip through South(ern) Africa. Solo, but armed with AA membership, a GPS Tracker and an assortment of tools and spare parts (as outlined in a different thread!). O yes, and my repair manual and mechanic's personal cell number! I'd like to show Goggo where he was born (Uitenhage!) and maybe do some off-the-beaten-path motoring while we're in the area.
And yes, I do like to get my hands dirty. I reckon you can't drive an air-cooled VW and NOT be prepared to be a mechanic as well!
Glad to be here - seems like a fun place to be!
Hugs!
LH

Re: New Members - Introduce yourself..
Hi everyone
My name is Thanos and I'm from Athens Greece (ya I know a little far away)
I've been into VWs all my life (late father was a mechanic and so is my brother) and currently I own two 1303s. A 73 and a 74 model.
The 73 runs on a T1 2332cc, 10.5:1 (weekend warrior), CNC comp eliminators 46X38, 48 IDFs, 1 3/4 side facing merged header, 911 cooling shroud and a whole other improvements, pushing out 210HP.
The 74 is undergoing an overall restoration. It will be driven by a T4 2800cc (103X84) with 48 throttle bodies SDS EFI, 915 gearbox, 944 Turbo aluminum trailing arms and 4pot brakes all around on porsche Cup II wheels and again other uprated parts.
I didn't mention that I'm a Greek Airforce Fighter Pilot currently posted in Italy and yes I like my VWs to be fast.
Nice being here and looking forward to talking to you guys.
And a couple of pictures from the 2332cc 73 model.

Thank you guys for the welcome.
beetlefanatic, I will post some more pics under the "My ride" section.
Tony Z, the exhaust was made by turbothomas (http://www.turbothomas.com ) in U.K. It's of excellent quality and fitting was very easy. It even fits under a normal rear apron.
I'm based in the NATO headquarters in Napoli. Will be staying here till summer of 2011.
