Nothing much has happened since the last post. I have installed the launch control on the ecu, it sounds absolutely stunning. Launch is setup at 5000rpm where I receive 0.2bar boost. So that means that there is 0.2 bar boost straight off the line.
Tomorrow I'll get her cleaned and ready to go to cars in the park. I simply cannot wait.
I suppose similar to antilag?
In some instances they have a port on the turbo that injects gas into the turbo to spin it up... sounnds like mean multiple backfires that makes sure boost is there right from the start for drag-racing.
There is quite a difference in anti lag and launch control.
Launch control is a second rpm limiter. The launch limiter is set at + - 5000rpm. You then go onto 5000rpm push the button and go flat foot on the accelarator. Whilst the button is pressed more fuel is added and the ignition timing is retarded. By doing this you almost burn the fuel in the exhaust which causes the turbine to spin up and create boost. When the light goes green leave the button and the clutch.
There is a couple of ways to do Anti lag. The most common is like what they do on the subaru rally cars. A over sized egt valve is mounted in the exhaust manifold before the turbo. This valve is connected to the boost line just after the intercooler. When changing gears this valve is opened and boost pressure is released into the exhaust, at the same time the ignition timing is retarded and extra fuel added. The fuel then burns inside the exhaust and creates a jet engine like simulation that spins up the turbo. So everytime you change gears the turbo will keep momentum and the lag will be reduced.
Sorry, for the guys that do not know. EGT stands for Exhaust gas recycling. A EGT valve is normally used for emmisions. The car then recycles exhaust gasses to the intake manifold to reduce emmisions.

Ran her for about eight laps and then suddendly lost compression on number three... First thought it was a broken piston. Took the engine out on Sunday afternoon to find a leak on the nr3 sleeve and head. Only reason I can think of was a bad casting or skew sleeves. All the head studs were nice and tight.
One good thing out of this... now I can change the cam
I'll try to upload some more vids today.
I was really impressed with the torque around the track. Down the main straight I tapped off at 6200rpm in 4th gear, up the hill the same.
Funny thing is that one of my buddies went to Zwartkops on Sunday while the track day was on to get some spares for his Gokart...
He saw your Beetle blitzing on the track and was totally amazed as to how "that old car was running."
After he got back home, he phones me up to tell me about "that awesome red beetle with the Gotech stickers on the side"... He wanted to know whose car that was etc, so I logged onto the site and showed him your project thread. He sat there for about half an hour going through the whole thing, and after that he was totally speechless
