Hi all,

Thanks for a great forum ... I'm Yugan and I recently acquired a 1958 Beetle which is in pretty good condition but needs my personalisation to make it my own.

I currently reside in Woodmead, Joburg and would love to meet others who have original or funk'd up Beetles especially the 50's models ...

Hi Aircooled
I'm a new member to this forum, in fact this is my first forum of anykind. I'm also a newbie VW owner. It all happened by chance.

I had a 2004 Vito that I loved, then I sold it as I was buying a 2007 Viano, but the guy sold it to someone else. So I was looking for a cheap car to drive until I found another Viano (which are scarce if you only have R300K). I need an automtic as I can't drive a manual.

I found a brilliant 1973 Kombi, 1700cc in original condition that has a 3speed auto box. I bought it at a classic car show in Plumstead! It is so nice to drive that I'm not in a rush to get the Viano anymore and I won't be selling it, I will be passing it on to my son. Everywhere I go people just smile at the bus.

The kids love it too as they don't have to choose what they can take to the beach, we can take everything and all my surfboards! My wife is not as keen on the old Kombi as the rest of us, but I'm sure once I have the Kombi 100% she will warm up to it. Her mom(Peta) had a 1974 Kombi, in 1974 and her Grandfather(John) was the first guy to put roofracks on a Kombi and her dad(Peter) drove Kombis all over the country towing motorbikes. My dad(Selwyn) used to rent out beetles & Kombis in the '70s so he knows them very well, in fact he thinks I should have bought an older model!

I'm now telling anyone I can to buy a kombi because they are so brilliant!

Thanks a lot for a great Forum!

Cheers, Kyle
