Hello fellow enthusiasts, my name is Paul, and I have been facinated with
Beetles & their kin from when I was still a pup of 8 years.

in those days (early 80's) my dear old mom had a Metallic Blue 1600 Bug,
that would not start, run or stop with any measure of predictability... I loved that car !

I am planning to buy my first beetle sometime this year, and look forward to
partake of the knowledge and humour of this forum and it's members.

Kindest,

Paul.

Hi there,

My name is Agiza Hlongwane and I'm in Durban. I won a '73 Bay Window Kombi. I bought it with its 17cc engine stripped, so I figured it would be less of a hassle to buy a good Bettle 1600cc engine, which I've done. The problem is the fly wheeel is incompatible with the vehicle's automatic gearbox (Yes, they made them auto transmission too), so I'm forced to do a conversion. Anyone out there has a 1600 gearbox, clutch pedal, gear lever and linkages? Please shout: 083 731 5647 or

I came across this site by accident, while Googling the gearbox. What a great forum!!! It's so re-assuring to see there are other people out there who share a love for these lovely vintage cars. I'm really looking forward to putting my bus on the road to rekindle a family tradition started by my grandfather in the early 1980s.

Thank you

:hangloose: Welcome Paul and Agiza. Post some pics of your bus Agiza, what competition was this ? 8)

With the 1600 motor, you will also need to find the correct "tinware" that surrounds the engine to keep the warm exhaust air out. But post all technical questions under the "advice" section.

I am new to the beetle scene, purely because of my admiration for the beetle. My first car I drove and owned was a beetle. After 23 years without the car, i decided it is time to get one again for restouration and the love of the vehicle. So i bought myself a 1974 model which I need to fix and restore. I am in computers and will do this as a part-time hobby.

hi from a boiling cape town! i've had several bugs in my life & a puma that ended up being a bottomless pit  after the 3rd aircooled rebuild i did a rotary transplant and chewed up the gearbox within days. if i knew about bugger i wouldn't have sold it!

Well, the bug has sorta bit me again, but i'm trying something different now  i intend on building a mid engined space frame speedster rep with an audi 500 as a donor vehicle & fully adjustable suspension.

so if anyone here knows of a speedster shell going for cheap, please let me know! it's the first piece of the puzzle to get things going. :zhelp:

Hi All ,
I am 48 years old and probably going through a midlife crisis !!!
in my teens I did up 2 x beetle, 1 . cal look ,sprayed black with gold flake , the other was just a colour change .
about a year ago i bought a 1960 11 window splittie deluxe which I am currently restoring and
recently just purchased a 1962 beetle for my son who has just turned 17 , this will be the car that he learns to drive in .
i am also into restoring japanese 70's motorbikes .
my very first car was a variant 1600 tl grey with red seats , what a car ( nobody else at the time thought so ....very uncool car )
and i hope to get another sometime !
well ,thats me chaps , happy VW times to everyone !!!!!
cheers

Hi.

You may get to know me as Mavericksys.

I have a maroon '74 Brazil export. Good car, shitty previous owners.

I have a passion for old vehicles and fixing them myself, with the help of Mr. Haynes and great forums like this one.

I'm only 22 and still finding mistakes all over the place though learning that the wall is only as high as you make it for yourself.

Otherwise I'm looking forward to getting to know everybody and having a great beetle on the road that anybody would be proud of.

Let the future begin.
