My name is Francois and i am new to the aircooled family.Baught my 1974 crewbus from Dr. Watson and luv my bus 100%.The bus is nicknamed "Smurf" and i would like to keep it. I have been to the KKK at lineque's drift and looking forward to the next! Hope I can make a positive contribution to the forum! Glad to see that the aircooled guys and gals all have positive things to say about the dubs and dont have the attitude of the other clubs as to what is all wrong with your ride! Keep it that way it is what makes u different from them! Looking foward to meeting u all!

Hi all

I joined this forum as I have been a Beetle enthusiast for quite a few years now, and I was on the lookout for a group of like-minded individuals to swap ideas and advice. Looks like I've come to the right place!

I have owned two Beetles over the past few years. The first was a (not very good) restored '76 I bought off a guy in Ysterplaat, Cape Town. I grew quite attached to that car and did some minor modifications like lowering the front end and fitting a 4-into-1 exhaust system. Reluctantly I had to sell it when I moved from Joburg back to Cape Town, but a second stint living in Joburg afforded me the opportunity to buy a second Bug from Beetle Buddies in Randburg. Anyone familiar with their work will know the kind of cars they produce, and while this one lacked a bit in 'personality', it certainly turned a few heads with it's cracking good looks (black fenders, bonnet and roof with cream doors and all new chrome bumpers and dish wheels).

Today I am sadly without either car, and while I already have some ideas for a new project, I am not going to be one of those noobs who makes fantastical proclamations, only to never visit the forum again! My nick might give you a clue though

So the next time you hear from me will hopefully be accompanied by pics and genuine evidence that the project is under way! Until then I'll just be lurking here in my little corner

Hi everyone.

I firstly want to apologize to the fig and everyone at acvwsa for just posting.
I'm a newbie here and I'm a real Aircooled VW fanatic. Beetles has been in our family since I was small, my dad drove a beetle and all my uncles had beetles.
I'm 21 now, and I got my first beetle when i was 16, i couldn't drive so it just rot away in the yard, when i got my license in 2007 my dad bought me this yellow 1974 beetle. A year later i was driving around and spotted 2 abandon beetles and i was excited cause it was a oval 54' beetle and a 1963 bug. The owner on the place told me i can get it cause he its just a waste of space, so i got it on a trailor and its standing in my yard now.
my 16 y/o brother also got bitten by the bug and me got him a 1967 bug, as a project, the project is almost finished we drove it yesterday.
together me and my brother has taken out beetle engines almost 10 times already and replaced gearboxes on our own 5 times.
I will always love the Bug, it's the most easiest and fun car to drive and restore.

Hi All,

I live in Pinetown KZN and own a 1981, maybe 1982 (the last 2l air cooled) camper van. Still original out of the factory except for a fiberglass top as the popup one rotted away about 14 years ago. It's been in the family for 13 years and has always run beautiful. Sadly, after a long trip last week, we suddenly lost oil pressure and looks like before any noise or smoke appeared, the damage was done. Seems a rebuild or conversion is now my only options... Such a shame as I love the fact it's still all original inside and out, except for the top obviously.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. All the experts I know advise I should put the liquid cooled 2l fuel injected jetta engine in. So If I go that route I guess I"ll have to leave this forum sooner than most.

Hi everyone,

New to the forum here. Bought my first beetle in 1996 and have loved them ever since. Now own a '74 model beetle and hoping to get her all fixed up. Just relocated from Jhb to KZN South Coast, so eager to find someone that is reliable and reasonably priced that can help with fixing up. Any suggestions or recommendations would be awesome.

Have looked at a few pics and posts so far, and love what i see

Marklyne, keep it aircooled, not many of those models left, you will find a type 4 motor somewhere, I'm sure.
BTW, that 1881 Camper, is it horse drawn?

Im Arno Grundling, im a ex South African In New Zealand and no have my hands on a South African Beetle so nice to have to Saffa's together,

Im driving it from Wellington City up to Auckland where I live soon and thought il join you guys as to the rest of the word this beetle is almost a super beetle but isnt and i know that but this is my first Aircooled VW im discovering things about this car slowly and i hope I can find out more with the help of you all.
