Hi There,

well it's about time I introduce myself
My name is Rae, I live in Port Elizabeth, I took delivery of my first AC vehicle last night

a 1973 VW Bettle 1600 Twinport

(picture below), I am very excited to get started on the project of restoring it, it is in great nic already but i want to re-Chrome the hub caps add a roof rack etc. keep it retro for now

began work on the roof rack over the weekend, will be installing it tomorrow with my diy brackets to transport my bicycles (my other passion! I compete in various Triathlon and Duathlon events).
looking forward to getting to know some of you better and hopefully taking some nice parts of your hands

Hey Emo Kid! Good to see another Hubber on this forum too. Bikes & Beetles go well together. Congrats on your new acquisition (and your "Thule" rack looks the shizz).

Hi Emo Kid
Congrats on the Beetle! Keep in mind that it will in all probability be much cheaper to replace the hubcaps with good secondhand ones, than re-chroming them

awesome thanks guys!
@ Pine thanks i will keep that in mind, is the a buffer or type of polish i could use with a bit of elbow grease to restore them? there's a bit of rust on 2 and a lot of rust on one and the other one is missing
speaking of which, anyone know a ACVWSA user that has these types of hub caps for sale? couldnt find any in the parts for sale section.

Looks awesome!
I have a stuntbike mounted on my roofrack and it looks quite cool. You just have to watch certain low-hanging obstacles

Welcome Menno11 and Emo Kid. Where abouts are you Menno11, post some pics of your bug
Rae, go to garage sales, 2nd hand shops, markets, church fetes, etc, etc, you will be surprised what you'll find. Also try to get to know other bug owners in your area, go to Beetle "gatherings", etc, etc. You will often have "traders" at car shows selling 2nd hand parts, Just mention what you're looking for, someone will have extra bits and bobs - cool roofrack

Hi my name it Christine, I was so preoccupied with getting my Beetle questions answered I did not see this. Sorry
Well where to start well I am 25 year old female car enthusiast from. Late last year sold my 98 mazda and bought 2 Beetles. For me and my mum, mine is green 69 1600 and my mum's a blue 70 1500. I fell in love with Beetles long before I was old enough to drive and buying one was just a dream come true. Though for me it was more a nightmare, I will post a full account in the stories thread cause it is too long to post here. We got mine up and running and my mum's was a steal that we got at 11k because she would not start and all it was, was the battery. I am new to this whole restoration deal and hope that my stupid questions won't annoy too many
My Green monster aka Ertjie
My mum's blue bargain aka Bennie

Good day to you all my name is Wimpie i am a very big vw lover and hed a couple of vw's but one that i never thaught to own was a split window transporter. I begged a guy who owns one in the freestate to sell it to me but gave up after a couple of years. I started a new job this year with a boss that anyone would wish for. He told me to go to his game farm in Limpopo to see if all is ok there and relax a bit. me and my boet drove in the bush and we came across a 62 split window transporter and a oval window beatle waiting to be discovered. My wish came true he gave me the vehicles i am fetching them the weekend. Will post picks asap. And by the way this will be a year or two project the cars have been standing for more than 15yrs that we know of. Great meeting you guys, going to try load some picks
