I going over kill just wasts fuel and under kill makes you have to rev to much making your engine not last so I need to find some thing in the midle that my carbs can run so Im still thinking about the 1914 cause then If I do want to up grade my carbs later I can and it will last with out been to much of a fuel guzzler :D

The reason tony says cons:not 2276 is a bit of a tongue in cheek comment because motors have the potential to be that big BUT stroker motors are not simple to build youre just going to shead lots of tears...

uhm.... no. But also yes.

Your choice in heads will influence your choice in cam, exhaust and engine size. In the same way, your choice of short block parts will influence your choice of heads. It all works as a package.
Figure out where you want to be, then buy the correct parts once....

You also need to consider the following before you start buying. Firstly MONEY, the use & type of ride, daily driver, weekend racer or trailer queen.
What you and I see as perfect motors are not quite the same.
What I see is a motor with a little more HP, daily driven, easy to maintain, and with the idea go anywhere anytime, without any worries. ie: drive it to Cape Town and back in a weekend from JHB type motor, get the pic.? No big carbs, heads, cranks etc.
For what it's worth, ignorance has no limits ......

not really... the reason I gave those answers is because one can write a book to answer the original question. Kinda like how long is a piece of string.
Frankly I dont have the time or inclination to make that kind of answer.

But yes, my last 1600 (94hp) took me 3 days to build, prob about 12 hours in total.
My 2332 prob took me about 4 weeks of 6 to 12 hours a day, plus all the small issues and improvements I have made along the way. Bear in mind that my garage is tiny and I live in a block of flats, so space just isnt there. Give me 3 times the space I have now and the car would be a totally different machine to the one it is now....

Now you starting to get it..i take it from what you want is a motor with lots of torque so a 1914cc is the limit before needing to stroke your carbs are very popular and good for your application...so lets put it out and work from there,1835 or 1914 with w100 cam stock heads with maybe a bit of a cleaning of the ports and maybe bigger valves,36mm webers and you should have a motor that should be to happy to push the bug along...like i said fuel consumption is going to be up to how you drive it...

Tony i agree and do listen to your comments becuase you have actuall experience in building motors...so whatever i say is a rough guide to what i have read so i expect people to correct me so i can learn aswell..rui i take it that he just wants a daily driver with a bit more grunt so that he doesnt get past by trucks at 80 on the uphills..am i correct richard...it seems he is going to save up quite alot of cash to do this so money he probably will have so come guys lets help the ou out...

Ruichard i suggest you first get some books to read come to think of it makes it easier to speak the lingo in terms of motor building...so get that book from edmond first and learn how your acvw works not a stab at you but you strugled to get your firing order right,we have all been there so dont take offence.then when you know how it works get the book called, how to hotrod your aircooled vw or something like that by bill fischer in there you will most probably find all the answers you need and whatever isnt the forums guys will gladly help clear out,i have been threatening to get that book for years have just read some parts and it is very informative...but advice from here will sound much more relevant once you know what they are talking about...good luck richard you will have to give me a spin once its done oneday...
