It is rather! And there I go telling a mate who wants to buy one that aircooled VWs are reliable!

Can't say I've had any trouble with Beverley Bug yet though, and she has taken me all over the country. I just keep the speed under 100, and drive and drive and drive and drive.... Maybe I've just been lucky?

I would rather get a problem on the road with my Bug than with the 2005 Merc I almost bought. True, the Merc will not give cr@p easily. But if it does, can I replace the points, repair the fan-belt or 'maak-n-plan'? Not so sure. Some of these latest models need a witch doctor and Harry Potter to diagnose a fault.

I moved from CPT to JHB with everything I owned all piled into my bug. Middle of July, left 2200 at night. So much in the car, I had to make a 10x10cm line between the rear view mirror and the rear window. Also had the passenger seat piles up to my shoulder height, the bonnet had to be forced closed.
Thankfully, I made it in 17 hours without a single miss-fire or any problem. OK, I lie, my petrol gauge gave up the ghost before I hit Paarl. 1500km to go, thru desert, no idea how much fuel I had.

The car that became 'Herbie' was selected by parking a selected group of cars in a lot and asked the actors and crew etc to go and have a look. The beetle was chosen because it was the only car that was patted or gently stroked as if it was a pet or child. The only car with a personality!

Yes. New members tell us about yourselves. What car and model do you own. Note I said own, 'cause some don't drive anywhere yet. Ideas for your car, stock, callook, etc etc.
