I have installed dowell pins in the flywheel/crank assembly. They fit real tight, but still feel the flywheel needs to be lightened a bit.

Are you sure you have the correct gland nut for the crank?
Way to test...
Take flywheel off and screw nut with washer into crank. If the nut stops turning before it touches the dowels you have the wrong Gland Nut which will make the dowel pin holes oval over time...

Yes mine was Lightened with the dowl pins and that is when I stopped scheering off the bolts as you got less momentum spinning

I decided to use another flywheel instead. According to the clutch part number it's the same as 914. I got the flywheel back from engineering today, just need to drill new dowell pin holes and send it for balancing.

Hi I just had an interesting conversation with a friend who is seriously into turbos and racing. the subject of flywheels weights came up and this is what he had to say. They built tis wild opel engine with a huge turbo and had a flywheel so light that it was almost non existent. Problem was that it had serious lag and failed to spool up quick enough. they fitted a standard weight flywheel and suddenly the engine came to life. It actually built both boost and revs quicker and was run in this configuration.
We had a long talk and this is what we came up with: the heavier flywheel did not want to rev up and because of this the engine produced more heat in the exhaust which in turn made it spool up the turbo faster which then lead to boost being built much sooner and made for a more aggressive acceleration. Whether our theory is right I dont know but it sure made a difference on that engine.

I know the drag racing guys go for a heavier flywheel, it helps when launching with those big ass slicks.
The turbo I intend getting is a Garrett ball bearing turbo, those things spool for nothing.

Tonight I will go pick up the engine and mock up block from my dad's place, so hopefully there will be some progress again next week. The next step is to finish the intake setup and then start on the exhaust system. I have allready found some thin wall bends with 42mm inside diameter that will be perfect for the engine size.

On Saturday I started with the intake V pipe, but could not get to far without gas for the welding machine...
