That there Notch is starting to look mighty fine.....

Thanks Herman! I got the coilies from Volkspares at R530 each. I hope that they will improve the handling of the notch!

I am surprised that you opted for coil overs. You can stiffen the suspension by adjusting the torsion bars. To ensure the best handling out of your Type 3, you need to observe the maximum tyre pressures carefully. They are on a tag riveted to the bonnet slam plate. If you run your tyres at 180kPa, your handling will be terrible. When I got my Notch, I replace the shocks with new, standard and adjusted to the correct tyre pressures and she handled fabulously. Same with my Razor.
I have since messed with the Razor, different wheels and low profile tyres, and it made things worse.
Good looking car, love the paint job, good luck with the rest of it.

My main consideration was the saggying rear end and the fact that I have changed the rims to 14" and will be fitting 195 70's.

The Ass down, has always been a way of life for the type 3, I have a type 4 in the back which carrys near 50 Kg more then the type 3 motor, all I did was set the back up two splines, still has the ass down stance, but the ride is excelent.
Just beware that you do not over rev the engine with the 14 " wheels, you will overheat the type 3 motor with ease.
Reason I fitted the type 4 !(sucks more air, better fan). As you have a Notch, with boot vents, you will not have the problems that the Variant and Fastback have of the narrowing back body, which gives a negative air pressure over the fins, at high speed, always had

with my fasty overheating, till I fitted a fin end scoop.
(now wait for comments to fly)

Herman and Ron please help me here?
I was under the impression that the rear suspension could be only be adjusted on the square back model? Notch and fasty's has a different rear suspension?
Could one fit a square back rear suspension into a notch?

All The type 3's have the same pan and mechanicals.
The type 3 also have a lot in common with the 68 and up Beetle, as they used the Type 3 parts to update the Beetles.
So if you stuck with parts, and you cannot find type 3 parts, look to the 68 Beetle, and you may find a common part.
You can set the Back Suspension exactly the same as the beetle, should you want to do it, I can post an "More simpler" way of working out how much and which spline to do it with.
Its a lot of fun but can make you swear like a trooper as the knuckles and the mind takes a beating, if you follow the manuals system.

Type 3s changed as much as Beetles did through their manufacturing runs, but yes, all four Type 3's had the same mechanicals. One notable change was in 1968-1969 when the rear engine mount was replaced with a underslung engine bar similar to that found in baywindow buses. If your handling is particularly bad on your '67, it could be that mounting that is missing, broken off or worn out. The rear suspension on Type 3's is rubber mounted which is why it is such a fabulous ride.
