Hi Rui, the clear coat has not been applied yet, it was / is only the paint itself
I'm refering to the old clearcoat, that was originaly on the car.

The clearcoat should be removed throughout the body, to do it right it should go down to metal everywhere to stop any fresh paint from cracking / lifting / flaking a few months down the line.
I saw this happen to forum member's bus, not the first time either, bus had to be entirely redone after only a few months, huge additional cost as the bus had to be srtipped down and everyting re-done as cutting corners at prep stage will cost dearly later. In a way you are lucky it happened now.
Prep is way more important than the final colour coats.

Also, beware of paint stripper, if it is not properly neutralized, it will carry on reacting in damp weather, and lift your paint, as well as start rust spots under the paint.

You will see here on the forum, the guys that do there OWN cars, as my self, sit for weeks, with a heat gun, and scraper to remove the old paint.

Have a Beetle that was painted by and "Expert" (I bought it like that) that is showing spots, lifting and rust marks from Paint stripper.

You can not "Just wash it off" with a hosepipe, as it sits in the old rust holes in the steel, it one hell of a job to kill the stripper.

No, best is take the car down by hand to bare metal, then flat it down, then do a rust converter, then an etch primer, then a filler primer, then the base coat, then the clear coat.

A quick buff and you smiling.

BATTERY TRAY

As you would know, a Beetle of Oupa's age with a solid rust free battery tray is a very rare find these days. Oupa also suffered from the same disease but surgeon Joggie successfully completed the operation and the battery tray section is better than new.

Holy Cow!!! That is unbelievebly shiny (me like shiny :D )
It almost looks like black chrome. Joggie is one very talented individual, well done.

This car is going to look AMAZING when it's done.

The FIX

The panel has now been repaired and sprayed. Except for the doors, Oupa has been completely sprayed and polished. I have ordered window rubbers from Rui and once the shipment has arrived and I have collected, the roof lining can be put in and window rubbers fitted.
