Look what followed me home........
Yes the 1952 Split Beetle has returned from the metal workers up in Jhb.
OK, so here is the story so far.....
The Beetle was found in Pretoria on a farm, the Beetle was brought back to Buggers work shop, and the donor car was also dropped off at Buggers workshop.
Pierre then had his metal guys loose on the project, and in very little time, replaced all the rust, with good solid metal, not only from the donor car, but from time correct panels brought in from all over the world.
The work was well done and on budget, and best of all, on time. Thanks Pierre, super work, and thanks for the detail built into this project.
Now the body will be removed, and the pan completed and final painted, before the new pan seals are fitted, as well as the original bolts supplied by Impi, Thanks Armand.
Hope to have more pic's during the build as from now, lets see.
Sorry about the "Shadow Man", but he does seem to be having fun, and also likes the beetle, judging from the thumbs up.
Thanks for looking,
Herman

Nice one! Glad to see progress.
I see the Fugly is still going strong in her afterlife...

Thanks Tony,
Yes the Fugly is paying rent in her old age, sold the Isuzu D/C so now she has to fill in.
Saved a R1300 by A framing the beetle from Peter Benn depot in Uitenhage to J Bay.

OK,.... so it has been sometime since last post.
But the work has been going on.
Moved the beetle into the new workshop, and striped the body off the pan.
Removed the 1300 gearbox, and fitted the Bugger repaired unit.
Fitted new wheel bearings, seals and slave cylinders to the back drums.
Due to extensive pan repair, it was a mission to get the gear selection to work, needed to make the gear lever movement correct to get it to go into all the gears correctly.
Once the pan work has been done, I will need to take it to a body shop, to have the pan twisted as the welding has pulled the one side up, and I need the load of the wheels to be correct left to right.
You may ask why not straiten the pan 1st, then do the other work, well I need all to be correct and in place to get the twist right, as any wear will not get the twist correct.
Yes now I would maybe have to reset the work done, but at least the geometry of the car will be correct when done.
Then its just to fit the body/pan seals, and refit the body.
Well till then , thanks for looking,
Herman

So had to rebuild the 1952 peddle assembly, lucky to have found two 2nd hand sets that I could make one off.
Decided to redo the flexible brake hoses, as not sure if they will hold out when all else is new.
Need to get me some metric taps, to clear out the old bolt holes, most full of rust.
My rust covertor is working over time, ..

Yes, you can not keep a good thing down.
She was asked to take over the Isuzu Double cabs functions, and she has done so proudly.
As I am to do the 1952 split Beetle 1st, I wanted to keep a ugly but friendly face close by till then.
and I must say, she has a lot of Rust to love.......
