I like to see the progress on your project. What are your plans with the interior?

I would also like to know a bit more on engine tin and cooling in these cars. Do you not need the engine seals etc due to fresh air from underneath? What tins do you leave off?

I have not given much thought to the interior but I would like to carpet or at least cover the doors, sides and maybe the dash.

With regards to the engine covers and cooling, as it is not a completly enclosed engine bay as with beetles I guess it would work much the same as a baja bug.
the only plates that I have on are the covers over the heads, behind the crank pulley, the J plates and the small ones that at the back by the exhuast.

Ig you were refering to me in your project post about the seats that I made, yes it was my first attempt at making the seats, I have worked with FG before but that was just run of the mill patching It was pretty labour intensive making the seats it took about 3.5 hrs to make one seats.

So because the correct grill from KCC are a bit expensive I have been looking for something suitable and found this stainless steel mesh.
Cut it to size and found some rubber edging, now just need to find a way to secure it to the body without showing the bolts or screws.

If it was me I would try to wrap it around a "wire" or maybe thin round-bar frame of the indent in the body's shape and weld some tabs to it that will through the hole in the body towards the inside. Then make small brackets to attach to the bottom of the fiber to bolt the tabs to. These brackets could be fiber-glassed to the inside if needed. Difficult to explain but i hope you get the idea.

You could try window rubber and treat the mesh as if it was the glass.
If it was me, I would close up those holes altogether, Ive never liked them

I'd make the "windows" out of Perforated Stainless Steel with a nice wide rubber running over the edges. You can screw it in and hide the screws under the rubber.

Ok so now I think I have buggered the mesh up as I tried to make a frame for it out of wire oh well not to worry.
Also tried my hand at making some headlight surounds (like the original ones) out of fiberglass, will get the pics posted soon just waiting for it to dry properly

What does the std headlight surrounds look like? I was wondering about it today when looking and fitting the lights.

When I cut the stainless steel mesh, Ja it is s/stein gauge mesh I left enough to fold over and then pinched the edges, then when the suggestion was made to put a frame around it it made a ridge so I hammered it flat and it made a mess of the mesh. So I may have to use the other grills I have, pics to follow.

Because I am using the std beetle head lights the back of the "vase" is visible so I made a surounds that hides it

The above pics are of the headlight covers that I made for the car, as I said before I am using std beetle headlights they "protrude" a little forward of the tube
I won't bore you with comments on the pics as they are self explanitory.
I will cut out the centre and trim down the sides, smooth it over and then post pics of the finished product
