Hey chris, and everyone else...
How is the insurance plans coming along? I don't wanna sound like an old toppie that moans and bitches about stuff that takes too long, but I am scared that if they steal my ride now, I won;t be able to get a new one, as I have NO insurance.
I am kinda waiting for you... so is it still gonna happen?

Just an aside.
I have my beetle insured with outsurance at the moment under their old car plan. I told them its worth more than the book value R3500 they have for a 65 beetle, and after some persistence from my side, they came out to inspect it and take pictures. So now it is insured - fully comprehensive nogal, for fire theft, accident damage, 3rd party the works, and with a book value of R15000 not R3500. They charge me R158 per month but for the time being and sure, its not the perfect deal, but at the time it was the best I could do. Just to give you guys some idea that you can have your old ACVW insured.

I spent 1 hour on the phone to outsurance after which they finally told me they were not prepared to insure my car fully comprehensive and would charge my nearly R900 per month. This about 5 years ago.
Plus, because I upgraded from drum to discs, I would have to pay an extra R350 per month because I modified the braking system, thus the car had to be more unsafe....

I just insured the bus with Outsurance for guaranteed value of R120k. Originally they quoted on replacement at R40K and the premium was R360 per month. With the guaranteed value of 120K, the premium is R518 per month for fully comp all coverage. I had to fit a tracker (now done) which was an additional R80 per month. I thought that's not bad as covers everything including natural disasters, hijack, etc. Much cheaper than the UK!

someone told me that you have to get the vehicle valued at a reputable car dealership, like bloomsbury and then send that to the insuarance company??? is this true?

"book value R3500"
are they having a laugh, seriously?
I know in the UK, clubs can get together and approach a snake-oil salesman* and create club-level policies for all the vehicles in the club, or the members who need insurance. The benefit of this is that you get a better rate for the insurance broker, and you can fine-tune the policy to suit your needs.
Surely this can be done here? I'd be shocked to shit if it wasn't possible. I pay 35 quid a month for my 1968 Cooper S, value of 9 000 sterling with limited mileage and no silly tracker added to the car.

Any news here? I really need insurance. I am still patiently waiting, but I am going to look for some insurance so long... this is taking a bit too long.
Currently, OUTSurance qouted me R294 p/m for my Beetle for Comprehensive Insurance. Will get a quote for third party/fire & theft as well.
