Hi Sean, good luck with your search, if you REALLY want it, you'll find it .....................
Keep a look out for upcoming events. Now and then there are "technical" days at Grandslam Auto in the Strand. Flat Four Racing are (apparently) also having an open day coming up (Killarney Gardens). Otherwise keep a look out for the car shows, etc, etc to meet the VW nutters .......

Hey Everyone.
My passion for aircooled cars started at an early age, as my dad loves and owned early Porsches all his life.My favourite car is without doubt my 1959 beetle that my grandfather bought new on 18th June 1959. It is one of a few restoration projects that I'm busy with at the moment.Highlights in my aircooled life includes the 1999 African Beetle Marathon followed by a trip of a life time in 2000, when a friend and myself drove a 1959 Kombi from South Africa to Norway. I spend the next 10 years in the USA and came back to my beautiful home Country 2 years ago. I am currently helping Werner Alker with opening his beetle museum and hope to show it to the public in the near future. I also started a website this year with the goal to capture as much knowledge as possible from Werner and other ledgends and also write stories on these special cars. The site is
http://www.aircooledwonders.com and it is there for everyone to enjoy that share the same passion.
Cars in the garage include 1959 beetle, 1957 oval, x2 356 b porsches, 1967 911 s porsche, 1967 911 porsche, 964 porsche and a 1959 kombi in Norway that will hopefully be back soon.

Howzit guys, start a thread under "my ride", post some pics of your cars/projects, ask questions, be active, you are bound to make some friends and get help where you need it. Update your profiles so we don't always have to ask where you are from ................

Jolas . I'll put some pics of our trip on here shortly. I have not posted a story on that trip.I posted a story on my 1959 beetle on there and will post my Sa to Norway trip on my site first thing next year. My goal is to cover as many stories of aircooled cars in South Africa as possible and feel that one story a year on my own adventures is enough. Check out next week story on some special Formula Vees. And yes . I would love to see that kombi come back to SA. I don't like it when our cars leave Sa , but thats just me. These cars are there to enjoy and if it gives someone pleasure to export, Then thats the way it is.

Hi,
I seem to be collecting Vdubs so always on the lookout for clubs and forums. I'm based in the UK now but back in '92-'94 I was based in Durban and had a few ACs. High light was taking the chairs out of a ex capetown combi and putting a matttress in the back and taking it up thru kruger, kariba, vic falls and accross the caprivi and down thru etosha, windhoek, swakop, reroboth, capetown and back to durbs thru the karoo. Had to struggle to keep the engine running for the last 800kms and do it in one go as the crankcase had cracked and once i parked it up that engine sadly died.
Now drive a 72 thing, 70 squareback, 72 karmann beetle and have a 1303 and a fasty parked up as spares or maybe one day repair.
Projects in progress.... change the engine in the thing, refurb the roof and other bits, karmann needs a tune and should run good until the respray is arranged, squareback is looking too ratty for me. I prefer stock looks except the thing looks better for a colour change into a civilian look.
Cheers,
Alex

Hi, my name is Jarlene and I'm fairly new to the forum.
I joined after browsing for information on my son's 1973 beetle. I live in Roodepoort, Gauteng.
I love the site, and think it's great that there is a community like this to turn to for advice.
I hope to one day own a samba, and travel to my hearts content.
