You'll want to leave the transmission in place for a rolling chassis. The axles will not hold the wieght of the car without the gearbox mounted; you'll just bend the spring plates.
I have VW factory plans for a nifty trolley wheel that bolts to the transmission mounting forks and allows one to push a car around without the transmission. It's pretty much just a very large castor attached to a piece of heavy angle iron that bolts to the trans forks.

Hi guys, my name is Donovan from Greytown. I recently got aquinted with the aircooled beetle engine when I was given one in pieces. So in the free time I've had the past couple of months have been spent putting the engine back together. I have a pan which I am shortening and I will be putting a fibreglass Jeep body onto it as the original beetle body is frot.
Regards
Donovan

Hi all
My name is Garth and am new to the forum side of thing.I do know a bit about cars etc and have bought my first bug which I am busy doing the usual repairs needed on an older car.
Have worked on many a beetle and always liked them but never owned one till now this one was actually bought for work purposes (I am contracting for nerds onsite) sorry if I was not allowed to put that in.The beetle is to be red and with the logo on used as advertising/work vehicle.
I am wanting to fit an engine from a variant into my bug as my motor is shot and can get the variant motor for next to nothing in good condition,
I would like to find out if this is possible and what modifications do I need to do if any?
Please can you advise me on this one never done a conversion before HELP!
Thanks again and hope to hear from you guys soon.
Anyways hope to have a long stay with you guys and hope to help where I can and get advice when I can.

Hello Warwick here
A few months ago I decided that the best way to cure my mid life crissis was to get myself a kombi
After a failed purchase up the West-Coast I passed the now affectionatelly known Sweet-Pea- Follwed her home and did the deal in the driveway
Alas the old girl has had some rough treatement with a 2 ltr rammed in the back and an arc welder used to make space
Thanks to Jurgen and Esme we should get this sorted out with the correct engine in the back so I can get back to fixing her up - Body not to bad but does need some help -nothing that a bit of time and money wont sort out
I have managed to get some original bumpers so her face does look a bit happier than the photo
Will keep posted as the project progresses
