come on zero, you know as well as I do that its good practice to keep your tools clean. Also reduces injuries due to slippage...

A wipe every now and then when they are TOO dirty yes, but a rinse off, then a dry off and 3mins later the same things!?

I have no formal technical training in anything automotive - in fact I have NO training whatsoever, and only learned a few things by trial and (mostly) error - stuffing a lot of things up in the process. (I'm pretty helpless in the kitchen as well).
As I direct result of that, I am pretty clueless in a workshop, making a greasy mess of everything, and misplacing critical tools faster than you can say 'David Copperfield was here'.
But the 'clean as you go' principle worked very well for me yesterday, and I will most certainly do the same next time. Yes, I love working on a car, but only if it is my own car!
(My dad once said that you can determine my levels of frustration while working on a car by the number of grease marks on my forehead..... )

Put back the brake light wires that I did'nt know where not connected. Replaced the flasher unit so as to indicate when I am turning.
All before the next road block.

I took mine to my mechanic for a service. Small, niggly things that I really don't WANT to do myself, like set the brakes, replace cables and so on, et cetera. I got a really great mechanic, and yes, I do change the odd filter and lightbulb myself, and even know how to change a tire without calling roadside assistance! (I happen to drink that kind of beer as well! Does that make me a real man???

) Seriously, I read about a big bug reunion set up by the Mint in June, so there's going to be a lot of cosmetic changes made to Goggo. Nothing much, but some upholstery replacements and replacing perished rubber at the doors and a broken light fitting (one of the elephant feet lights at the back!) and a new speedometer unit (old one's odometer not working well - want to be able to calculate fuel consumption!)...
Now you know...
Hugs!

Are you a real lady or boy pretending to be a lady? There's only one to tell. Post a picture of you, standing next to your Beetle, holding a sign saying Lady Hooligan.

Met Spliteric and saw his cool semaphore splitty in PTA today.
Went to go and buy new fuel lines today, the car has those horrible braided fuel lines that look brand new. When I pulled the airfilter off yesterday, I could see that the RHS pipe leading into the carb had a leak - cloth was wet and you could see the stain marks on the tin
Need to fit the Rostyles and driver side lap belt and we should be good to go for tomorrow

Adjusted the brakes on Ol' Betty. What a mess I made. She beno better off, I think. I will sort her out soon, though not tomorrow!
Attempted
http://www.aircooledvwsa.co.za/viewtopi ... =4&t=15420 "part 2" by R&G but only realised now as I re-read it that I made a cock-up. Ok, not a cock-up, but neglected to follow an instruction
When I get a chance again between today and Mon (before I have to drive he ol' girl to Pmb), I will do it again and see if the outcome be any different.
She still stops though

Friday, put the ghia on my name and had it roadworthyed.
Saturday, got the licence disc and tightend the left rear wheel bearing cover that was coming loose. Drove to Killarney and was told by fellow travellers on the road, I had a rear wheel wobble.
After leaving Killarney, I found the accelarator pedal had broken. So now you know what on todays agenda is.
