Hi Ron!

Thanx for the info. I did not know that.

I see that you are also from Hermanus. My green vw will be here soon. You might have seen a red 1987 Golf GTI driving around in Hermanus (thats mine)

Anyhow... Thanx for the welcome and maybe we should organise a meet sometime.

Hey, cool, no problem, but only if you change the model you have from a 64 Variant  to a 64 Notch :D ... My Razor is also a 64.

Why don't you pm me your cell number and I'll ring you when I'm at the house, which will be end March. Have you see a black and white splitty driving around? That's the wifey's.

Hi Titanvw

Great intro, many of us have those same memories, long trips, lying above the engine, falling asleep, watching the stars and street lights whizzing by :D

I think Merlin is correct, sounds like you have a Fleetline Kombi, the model will be 1974 - 1976 (even though it is a split screen). It has Brazilian origins.
"Barn door" refers to the engine compartment hatch of very early split busses - early 50's. The two doors on the side are knows as cargo doors. Please dude, post us some
photos and the chassis number and we can take it from there ! Where are you in ZA ? Cheers and welcome :hangloose:

The most likely scenario, from your description, is that you have a Fleetline Kombi (OCT '74-MAR '76). Brazilian CKD, ZA assembly.

The cargo doors on the left (default, RHD) are not the origin of the "barndoor" nomenclature.

Well Not sure.. what it is, does have the orginal Barndoor at the back, but haven't seen it for a while ( been in storage too long) it is a 15 window, but seems to be a slightly later version with the extended roof at the front..

Hi Jolas...

Would love to get some pics up, just need to know which forum to post in, not as easy as the VW Club to navigate... Stay in JHB, tho do travel a bit..

Looking forward to this year... should be a great start on the Kombi.. It does have cargo door and what I remember it also has opening windows in the rear too.. (sides)

Thx

Welcome all newbies and especially to Jurgen. Wow, so you can use a computer after all!

Titanvw. Pics please! It is most likely you have a 75 Fleetline. If you really have a 15-window barndoor then you have a very very rare bus.

Yes, I've met Francois, he's around here on the forum too... lurking under some obscure nickname... And Charl of Hermanus Gas? Big buggy builder. I think it is his Porche-replica standing at Executive Panel Beater.

Hi all.

Just left a premature "help me" post on http://www.aircooledvwsa.co.za/viewtopi ... =3&t=24265 - so albeit early and feeling somewhat out of my depth - figured three days into the forum was about the right time to introduce myself... So, have nothing yet, but love the sentiment of keeping these beauties in South Africa - so hope to own a splitty in the near future.

One step at a time...

Hi all.

My name is Adrian (if you hadn't guessed). I am an ex-Natalian living in Fourways, Johannesburg. It's been quite a while since I owned a V-dub. Recently however, I have found myself "backsliding" as Billy Graham puts it. I now have a Sun Yellow 1973 Beetle (not Super).

I am about 80% through the restoration/renovation/upgrading of Beetle Bailey. Most of this was body related so I have had a lot of physical and manual labour. I have tuned the motor and she is now running like a dream. When we know each other better I will divulge what motor he has, lest you have some misguided preconceptions.

Seriously though, I am in the market for some parts, but will send out the necessary requests further along the road.

It's great to belong to a maniacal bunch of V-Dub fans. May we all prosper and keep the tyres pointing in the right direction.

Speak to you all son.

Adrian
