Based in Pinetown, Durbs.
Tooodally new to the Volks Scene, but not new to cars (specifically '68 to pre-86 BMWs)

Got 3 (yes THREE) new projects on the go...started with 1, which rolled, then found shortened chassis for that engine (Berry Mini-T), then found longer body for original chassis.....then found another engine....now looking at Trikes!

Y u guyz not say these babies are ADDICTIVE!!

Already looks like I am buying shares in Motorbooks' VW section!!

I am completely unfamiliar with air cooled VW's but joined the forum to get information.

I have a 1969 1600 TL fastback Auto that I am trying to get a value and buyer for.

Any information will be highly appreciated.

Just to make sure I am not labeled an outsider or infidel, I do have a Polo.

I joined the forum yesterday and it is fantastic. Have browsed through most of the threads already and it is great to see so many enthusiasts.

In my late teens, early twenties, I owned a 63 Beetle, it got stolen, so bought a 72 Beetle and held onto it for 5 years. The Beetle was my first car, and it was there with my first girlfriend, my first job and the first house I bought.

In my early thirties, I owned a 66 Karmann Ghia. Sold the KG to go oversees.

Now I am in my early forties and want to get back into the seat of a Karmann Ghia.

Hi my name is Pierre, I live in France and own a few VWs, a 1966 1300 Beetle, a 1966 1600TL Fastback, a 1961 Karmann Ghia and a 1971 Panel Van.

I am desperately looking for a set of 15" Rostyle wheels and hope I'll have more chance to find them here, hoping there won't be too much of an hassle to ship the wheels to Europe

Hi there, my name is Edwin. My fondest early memories were leaving for holidays - my dad would carry me ("sleeping") before dawn and put me in the back of the 1700 Kombi to start the trip from Pretoria to Nature's Valley. Hearing that flat four running and taking us to our destination probably put petrol in my veins.
Since then I made my way through various incarnations of the same thing. My recreational vehicle for the last few years has been a beach buggy.
But now I need to get a little more oomph than the 1600 single port motor can provide. So I just got my hands on a good condition (I hope) 2 litre engine from a 1982 Microbus
I will be building this into the buggy soon, but it is very important for me to get it tuned perfectly - specifically the carbs.
Been looking on the net for a tune-up procedure for the 32/34 PDSIT's, but most information is for the 72-74 models. It all looks mostly the same, but there my be differences.
Could anyone point me to resources on tuning the carbs and timing on the last of the 2 litre engines?

Im into the technical stuff, joined this site to get some help on my 1980 microbus.
But i used to do conversions for 5jrs not so much on vw's but i do posses kowlage of turbo conversions and management systems, so might be able to help someone as well.

Hi fellow bugsters. I can see that this aircooled thing is big in south africa to. I raelised that i could even get some conversion parts for a type 4 here. I am pleased to find this site and i believe it'll sold some of my prts sourcing problems. I am a vw mechanic in the united kingdom - a fairly new one at that, but keen nonetheless.
Now i know am not mad for flling i love with a seemingly pointless car and if this were a disease, then i wouldnt want to know the cure.

i have been into vw's for a while but only water cooled mainly vw golf mk1.

Hi Gavin, welcome to the forum.... Just out of curiosity what is a 76 late bad? lol just joking I know you mean bay.... Thought its a bus for basasses.....

Hi guys, I am new to the VW world since I always had JAP cars, recently I found a bay I always wanted from a young age brought it down from JHB, for now its standing still as the motor is out I am looking to get it running first then it’s in for a makeover, all seats removed L-Shape couch in, webasto tilt & slide roof and a redo of the entire interior, the body needs some work but it’s fairly straight with minimal rust.

I will upload pics as soon as i can.


any suggestions on a replacement engine i was told a 1600 engine with a big bore kit 90.5mm pistons should be suffice.

Do I go Mahle forged or cast pistons? some shops say cast is fine others say for the price diff you might as well go Mahle forged.
Open to your info and suggestions anytime, I am learning about the bay as time goes on, please do excuse me if I do don’t know exactly what you talking about.
