hi all rory is the name. First car owned was my lickable green beetle which i drove for ten years until it was stolen. Currently driving a white an orange splitty, ive got two projects on the way, a fastback variant if only i knew better) and a second 62 german splitscreen. The irony of it all is that i:-)know nothing about cars and really dont care to learn, i just love the look of vw aircooled cars. My ego gets stroked every time i'm in my splitty. So my problem is that its costing me quite a penny cos of my lack of car knowledge. Hoping that u guys o the forum will be able to help me keep my cos down.

Your story is very familiar here, I am also useless mechanically, just love the look/feel/history of them - but this is a cool forum to learn and get advice .

Hi, my name is Morne and I am from CT. I don't have anything Aircooled yet . I am an avid reader of the SA Hot Rod mag and keep on seeing stunning Aircooled vehicles being rebuilt. When I was younger we had a '72 1700 bus converted for camping done by my dad and my mom and her friends back in the day were complete beetle nuts. Therefore I am wanting to under take the daunting task of finding a running Karmann Ghia with papers as a project. I am hoping to take a look at a '66 over the weekend. Anyone out there that might have a KG parked in their garage let me know I have never undertaken anything like this before but am dead keen to try it out.

Hi Guys My name is HILTON ROBIN and I live in Saldanha Bay. My son and I recently made the BIG plunge and bought a 1958 Splitscreen. Only to find another 1960 Splitscreen a month later. We have been talking about it for years. Now we got them, I must confess I feel overwelmed with all the work and parts that I need. I also not sure of the termanology and names of parts I need.EXAMPLE. The panel behind the front seats where the spare wheel is situated. Where do I start to look? Welcome 1 and all newbies. Earlier this week when I bid my bug farewell, I had to device a method to remain member of this family, thus begun work on http://www.aircooledvwsa.co.za/viewtopi ... 23&t=19392 Removed the seized engine and am starting the strategy of fixing floor pan.

Newbies, what I am saying in a nutshell is, no matter the procrastination had on the project, lack of mechanical skills or knowhow, net vasbyt! Buy a local mag and an imported one once in a while, go to shows and be inspired. Ask stupid question here and ignore everything Vader says!, and above all, get a manual and get your palms greasy!!

Greetings

I have a daughter that has her heart set on a beetle - so I am in the market. I owned one from 1976 until around 1986. Stopped counting after removing the engine for the 11th time. Learnt averything what not to do in repairing engines during the time.
BUT - I now own a Grob 109B (motorglider) which has a 2000 VW motor, modified by Grob to 2500 (100mm pots). I have just rebuilt the engine (valve guides were history and cracked heads). I want to install a new Tachometer. The current one uses the alternator (engine built in 79)- there must be a better way! If anyone can give me pointers as to how these are installed in VW engines today, I would be most grateful.

I want to put disc brakes and a gearbox that would run perfect. And I just want to say. If got a beetel and I'm loving it..
