Hi guys new member here, my name is gareth, 4 months ago I took owner ship of a 74 bug with a 4age 16v series 3 twin cam motor
Its been head aches and a lot of bashing head into wall moments, had brake issues, wiring issues and was endless,
All is right now and must say best decision I made, glad to have found this forum, I have fitted 45mm throttles to the motor to give me more space and end of april should be have a turbo on it,

The bug is lowered with 18's, interior is custom and rear end is fibre glassed, has 4 wheel disc conversion and a button clutch with lsd,

I'm 18, stay in krugersdorp, I do all the work my self, I look forward to future events or simple meets, always like to learn more along the way. I Haven't explored the forum properly yet but looks great so far

Hi Guys!

Recently became the owner of a '76 Baywindow kombi. In the process of restoring her finding her in a less than perfect condition.

Quickly realised that this project is a neverending search for parts!

Current wish list:
- 4x wheelcaps
- (Big) VW badge
- Rear badge

Regards,

Nielen
Cape Town

Norman was an Ambulance! Norman spent his childhood around the sports fields in East London, parked on the sidelines at schoolboy rugby games.

Some will say that life begins at 40, but for Norman life has arrived at the tender age of 35. I was granted custody of Norman on the 8th of April 2013. This emotional moment took place at the East London airport where I had flown in to meet Norman and his surrogate father and take him back to Durban / Ballito where he will start living!

It's all about Norman.....

Congrats on the purchase of Norman, I've seen the bus on Gumtree. Have you already driven it back to Durbs or is the road trip still ahead 8) ? Did it come with any of the original ambulance equipment ? What are your plans ? Enjoy - the bus looks straight and solid :hangloose:

Made the trip already. I was going to stay a few days in E-London, buy some basic tools and get Norman checked out before making the 700km trip home but decided that would just be bad karma so I set off immediately after doing the deal at the side of the road. BTW, I paid a lot less than the R40k advertised on Gumtree (PM me if you want the full story).

I don't think Norman had ever seen a full tank of LRP and as a result, he got a bit of dust and dirt in the fuel line which materialised about 150km out of EL. I immediately recognised the symptom from 22 years back when I built a beach buggy with the exact engine and learned about rust in fuel tank......

No tools, but some serious flicking of fuel lines, tapping of filters and whispers of sweet nothing's (more like F-ing and Blinding) into Normans engine bay - back on the road after 10 minutes and not a hint of sh1t for the rest of the way home.

Everything seems straight, no serious rust and engine runs like a dream. 49000km on the clock, which could well be genuine. Interior is gutted, which is great because I'd like to pimp it out - in a non purist fashion..... Original siren, spotlight (awesome for hunting, neighbourhood watch or game viewing at night) and dome shaped air vent are the only original equipment left.

Those 49000 kms could well be genuine - any other history on the bus in it's ambo life, apart from sports field duties ? If you decide to replace the ambulance glass all around, please let fig know - he is looking for a right rear (I think) window for his ambulance, same model as yours ...

The trip back to Durbs must have been cool, please post pics if you have and start a new thread under "my ride" or in the projects section :hangloose:
