Welcome here Lala,
Think you should start a new thread under "Projects" or go to "Who rides what" http://www.aircooledvwsa.co.za/viewtopi ... =1&t=26334
and place some pic's of your VW's, this will be of much interest to all of us, and help in future questions.
Should you not know how to place photo's, just do a search in the top right corner of every page of this forum.

Enjoy, and waiting to see your cars.... :D

Hello everybody, my name is Cyndi, i am 14 and i have just bought my first car; a 1976 Brazilia Kombi.
I am a Gunslinger Longboard Skateboard team rider. I am a provincial sportsman/woman. I teach guitar and also play gigs (ABSA Kollig Music Festival, Durban International Blues Festival etc...) and i am currently learning to surf.

My dad collected the kombi in Joburg and brought it down to Durban on a trailer.
We have had it for 3 weeks now and have managed to get it started (hot wired) and the brakes working.
The brakes took us 8 days to sort out, they were solid. Thanks to Hotzman for helping us out.
The engine is currently being serviced and set up.

My dad and i are going to try and restore the kombi by ourselves. Neither of us are mechanics and so we will be looking for as much assistance and advice as possible.
We did import a book on restoring kombis but it has gone missing in the mail.
We are using my money and so we are working on a very small budget. We are looking for a lot of smaller items but would still like to keep the bus as original and high spec as possible. We are hoping that there are a number of other kombi enthusiasts who may have good quality, good condition parts available to assist us.
Here is a list of things we can see we need:
Front Indicators
Brake Lights
Side Mirrors
Rear View Mirror
Hub Caps
Door Handles
Steering Wheel
Gear Knob
Airvent Covers
Dash
Metal ring around the headlights

We look forward to hearing from everybody who is interested or who can assist.

Cyndi

:hangloose: Hey Cindi - welcome :hangloose: You made it at last !
Congrats on your Kombi. I'm sure you will be hearing from Hermon in PE who also has a "Brazilia" kombi. Other owners are Priscilla, Johan Eagle, HR just to mention a few ...
Start a new thread under "projects" or "my ride" and list all the bits you need again. Be active here, post pics, keep us updated on your progress there (with chookie and all  ), and you will definitely get comments and advice.
Hopefully you will encourage more Durban based kombi-owner members to be more active here 8)

Hi Aircooled folks

I’ve been digging around your fine forum for a while now as a guest and absolutely love the spirit and atmosphere around here. The need to have a VW has bitten hard after many years without one. The first two vehicles I personally owned were both clapped-out Mark-1 Golf GTi’s (an ’82 followed by an ’83), the first one acquired in 1991 and the second in 1994. After spending a fortune on fixing both my wife developed an anti-VW phobia that exists to this day, poor woman  . She also ensured that I haven’t bought another one since - uhm, until pretty soon and then we’ll have to assess the consequences when that day arises…

Anyway, I’ve always loved aircooled VW’s, having grown up in the back of a Splitty-doublecab (my Dad’s first car), a 1500 Rondalia beetle (white with blue fenders) and a 411 Variant SW. However it is my grandad’s Kombi, a dark-green 1970/1 Baywindow lowlight that is mostly responsible for my current nostalgia. We travelled all over the country in that bus and that bus shaped many wonderful childhood memories. So, that model bus is the current source of my obsession and god-willing I’ll find a good one come end-of-June 2013 and restore her to her former glory. Oh and if I can find a lowlight Westy...pass the Kleenex

Until then, I’ll satisfy the aircooled demon by trolling this forum…

Cheers
Clarke

Hi Everyone
My name is Marthinus, I'm based in Johannesburg and I recently took over my grandmother's 1970 1600 Beetle. It's just had it's first proper service in over a decade and it's said to be mechanically fine for now. I drive it to work every day. Now the bodywork and interior needs attention (will be more of a long term project, though) - and that's where this forum will hopefully come in handy.
Looking forward to reading more of the content in this forum!

Hi Guys!

My name is Rick, I'm new to the forum but not so new to the aircooled world.

I own a 1976 Beetle (Jessy) and I use her over weekends. Had her since my first year at varsity and I'm still driving her 4 years later. I live in Johannesburg and would love to join a beetle club in the area.

Does anyone know of a club?

Good day,

My name is Colin, My friend and I recently bought an old VW 1972 Bus which is now our project for the next few months. I look forward to chatting to people with similar vehicles and learn more. We're currently in desprate need of some parts and would like to hear from anyone who is stripping such a vehicle.
