Thanks.
It looks like I'll be near Frankfurt from 1 to 15 July. I dont mind travelling, Hamburg is great, but Dresden is a bit far, lovely city though.

Hi Everybody.
I am new the forum and did not have an air-cooled VW for some years.
I got hold of an Aqua Sport buggy recently that was never assembled and me and the youngster decided to do a father and son project car. I live in Centurion and works in the technical industry. Love to drive and work on the air cooled VW’s.

Hi all

I'm the new newbie.
I'm actually a 4x4 guy but it all started with my first Beach Buggy (7 years ago), after I upgraded to a Toyota Hilux I sold my buggy but I recently bought a bargain Baja for a Father & Son project so I'm reliving the good old Beetle workshop days and stumbled across this forum during my search for Pipe Car ideas.

I'll be browsing around and asking some questions if you don't mind, any links or directions to assist me would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Good day everyone at aircooledvwsa! Happy to know South Africa has a healthy aircooled culture!

So I am new here... 22 year old mechanical engineering student graduating at the end of the year!!!

I've been playing with aircooled machines since I was 15. Like many things in life, I learned the history of VWs the hard way - my first build was a "pypkar" which a friend and I did in 2006 on a total budget of R4000 (including the purchase of the donor vehicle). We cut up a 69 Sedan, built the car and then in time learned that these old cars should not be used as we did - in the process we also managed to throw away many valuable parts...

My second clever idea came in 2008, a small improvement on the choice of donor vehicle (74 Beetle), to build a baja bug - this project again tought me many lessons including not to completely disassemble your first car, rather fix one thing at time! This project has been lingering ever since and transitioned to a beach buggy build in January this year. I hope to finally be running her in in July.

Other experience on car-building include six months with Simon at Old Mill Rod and Custom in Parow - great guy, excellent workshop, very greatfull to have had the opportunity! as well as about a month or so with Barry (the sheet metal guru/genious) - I believe Barry is well known here, so no need to tell you about how good he is at what he does! Awesome person and I'm also very greatfull to have spent time in his shop.

As for the future, I have way too many ideas to share here! I should note though that they are themed more on the restoration side than my earlier cut-it-up and roll without a plan builds.

I'll post some photos during the week and also later in June when I'll (hopefully) be building a cage for the beach buggy.

Thanks for all the rich forums that are here already, hope to be of help oneday!

Cheers for now

Hi there guys and gals. My name's Lyall. In addition to owning a VW Mk4 Jetta (132kW), I am in the process of acquiring a 1974 VW Type 4 Variant (Type 412). Good things lie ahead for both vehicle. Full restoration for the Type 4. Plenty to come. Will be documenting both projects. (The Mk4 Jetta will be seeing the tarmac alot less as I plan to use it as more of a show/feature project). However the Type will be a daily driver. Can't believe how much I started liking the aircooled VW's Love the retro styling. Will be relocating to Durban however I am from Cape Town. Would love to meet all you guys and share in your passion and expertice for the VW brand.
