I'm a petrol head of note. I am not into speed, but do appreciate all things automotive.

My first encounter with the ACVW scene came in the form of a modified 1969 Amante GT in around 2007ish. She was my first Build. Thereafter I was hooked on the Retro Modding scene. Then came my current "Nut and bolt" restoration which is the Puma GT. My other interests include welll... just the usual "Drugs, Sex and Rock & Roll" .

Jokes aside, I'm a friendly character who is still new to the game - I have however learned a lot that I am willing to share with the community - Most of the work I do gets documented in the form of pictures so there will be lots of posts from me in the future.

I am looking forward to contributing to the clan.

Hi all missed my inroduction or rather posted it on the wrong place. Been on here since yesterday looking for help. My name is Henk im 35 and live in scottburgh south. I have a long time project bug with some centimental value. I'm a fitter by trade and been working with engines a bit on and off assisted in re doing tractor engines Ford v6 lawn mowers old lister generator engines and my biggest project has been a mini 1275. Top to bottem. Looking forward to share and help where I can. Talk to ppl with the same intrests and gaining knowlage and help.im by no means clued up on the finer detail of engines but are mechanically minded and understand how they work and what the components do....

My name is Louis and I live in Pretoria.

I recently (late last year) changed from being a biker to being a triker and now ride a trike with a 2l aircooled motor. I hope to get valuable advise and maybe some parts swopping, selling and bying with this forum.

I am Theuns Hurter. From PE but I am now residing in Bloemfontein. I had a 1976 1600 Beetle in my student days. I love the little cars.

I am into Hunting, Booze, Woman! LOL!

My father gave me a 1976 Beetle 1300 as a present in December.He does not have time for it but does not want to sell it. She is still in Good Nick, some minor rust. Her manuals is as new, tools, cover in the front boot, even still have the plastic covers for the wheel nuts. She had one owner thus her nick name "Helen". This little car was truly loved,looked after and has a very happy feel about it.

Mechanically she is in 100% running order and a pleasure to drive. (Braking, clutch Steering ,motor) I was amazed at how well it accelerated when I drove it.

As an old lady she needs some minor attention. Not a big project as the mechanics has been sorted.

I would like to replace some of the chrome strips, all windows, door ,bonnet, engine bootlid rubbering. A new set of carpets, one Rostyle rim metal cap and a couple of interior exterior parts this year.

During 2017 I would like to replace the vinyl chair covering with leather.

As I am in BFN I will have to order either online/email phone.

What spare part dealers do you guys recommend?

A friend built the trike, but I am making some changes to suit me.
Some changes include a new spray job, added disc brakes and smaller cosmetic changes.

But admit I love riding the trike.

I'M in the process of purchasing a 1975 Crew Cab, previously owned 2 Beetles - in the 80's!
Current owner put a lot of work into the vehicle already :
Golf 2L engine etc.

I’m new to forums in general but because this seems such a cool one, with loads of members with valuable knowledge about the cars I love and own, I registered in august 2014 to this one. Until now I was just a silent member that peeked around in all the inspirational air-cooled projects that are showcased here. But when I did my first post yesterday (asking for some sliding windows for sale for my 72 kombi) a guy named Fig reminded me to first go through the formalities of introductions and getting to know each other better before asking for the family jewels. Because Fig is absolutely right about this I decided to move out of the shadows of this forum and also share a bit about myself and my air-cooled 72 VW Kombi.

My name is Jeroen and I moved from Holland to South Africa (Cape Town) in 2006. I grew up next to the panel beat shop of my dad in Holland. My love with everything that is old and has two or four wheels started there, in that shop. Because my dad always struggled to find guy’s to clean the spray booths and dust filters after a week’s work (Holland is no SA) as a student I was able to make a deal with him. I cleaned the booths and filters but he allowed me to use the company’s tools and facilities in my weekends to metal repair and spray-paint old mopeds and Vespa scooters I liked so much.

Unfortunately I no longer have access to the awesome facilities I had at my dad’s shop but I still like to work on and ride old vehicles. I now own two iconic air-cooled vehicles I absolutely love and always wanted to own. One is a 1978 Honda CB550 motorcycle and the other one is a1972 VW kombi. I re-builded my motorcycle a few years back and my combi is my current project to keep my automotive family tradition alive.

Grand Slam Air Cooled Services in Somerset West helped me to overhaul the brakes, bushes and suspension of my Kombi. The engine seems fine but I most definitely need to do some rust / paint repair and I need to find some missing windows. I also want to re-upholster the interior of my bus with the industrial sewing machines I use in my company. I’ve never done automotive upholstery work but it seems fun to me so I will give it a try.

I even might consider to post my own project thread on this forum the moment I have something interesting to show about my build. Maybe i also can inspire other people to keep these vehicles on the road. Thanks Fig for inviting me to introduce myself. When can we talk about the family jewels?
