Well not 100% without chrome as the door window trim + handles have chrome. The only places on this car that will have shiny bits are:

- lights
- door handles
- window trim
- bumpers

Trying to work out how to install the door trim without scratching the paint in the process. not the easiest of things

If I may make a suggestion.

3M makes a soft blue tape that overseas dubbers use to protect the front of their cars when doing long distances. We used that when we were busy helping a friend with his newly sprayed Golf - It goes on and off very easily

Good idea, heading to midas now.

If anyone in the Durban area has done this before, there is a bottle of the finest whiskey/vodka/champagne waiting if you could show some guidance... :)

Frustrating day with the doors, still not 100% sure how you get all the bits in correctly, so concentrated on sorting out the loom and various other bits.

Spent some time around the engine and decided to look at the engine number, to work out what it was and i've hit a wall with identifying it.

the number on the case is SFH0868735 yet i can't seem to work out what it is using the various online tables.

anyone have an idea?

as it was my first time fitting the front door rubbers it also seemed frustrating, but soon got the hang of it.
the blue tape is a good idea.
1) spray a good dose of Q20 into the window mechanism.
2) fit the chrome surounds, the propper size should fit just nice and snug.
3) put in the window chanels, u probably need new clips as the old ones usually break wen taken off. i also had to add genkem contact glue to hold them down
4) fit the 1/4 vent, do not screw down yet
5) fit the scrappers, use a large flat screwdriver or chizel to pop the clips into the body.some of them have one clip out of place. this one can be removed as long as the others provide enough grip.
6) slide the window up the window chanels.
7) while brasing the window, tighten the 1/4 vent.
8) now bolt the window to the mechanism.
9) spray some Q20 into the channels for the window to move up and down smoothly.

as for the other windows, i got pg glass to fit them.

this is how i fit my windows, hope it helps.
i must add that there will be some frustration while doing this. u will have to use ur own descresion here and there.

keep us posted

Pretty useful day, except for the doors. I have no idea how they are all meant to fit together. I ended up nicking a bit of the paint, so stopped and concentrated on other bits.

A handful of bolts managed to shear whilst removing the fenders/running boards, so prep'd them all to drill them out and re-tap.

Cleaned up the front-end. Was worried that the usual rubbers up the front were finished, but once I scrubbed off all the dirt and crap, i was greeted with new rubbers. Makes a change.

now I wait for all the parts to arrive
