Re: Beetle type 4 turbo project - aka Kalashnikov
This is just my mock up fan housing, I've got one that fits the engine properly.
Yes, I did get you mail... thanks. Just did not get to email you back yet, sorry

Re: Beetle type 4 turbo project - aka Kalashnikov
Nice progress.
That centre mount fan housing is known as the "engine cooker", (referring to overheated left side cylinderhead). I once inherited the remains of a cooked engine that had one of those ineffective shrouds. Although probably not likely to cause serious issues during quarter mile drag racing, or short trips with a lightweight vehicle. A CHT gauge will be good insurance. With at least 2 sensors, (one sensor on each head). And a switch between the left and right side sensors.

Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.

Re: Beetle type 4 turbo project - aka Kalashnikov
This is a full methanol setup, so the CHT's run a lot cooler than with normal fuel. In n/a setup you can actually run the engine without a fan housing due

damn I really dig your car, only realised that you're the same Louis that races the car in the historic series a while back. In car shots from your car are always good to watch, especially when you're beating someone on the brakes.

Thanks, I still race in the historics. We have built another bug as well for my dad to race in the series.

ps, a while back was when I first found out that you raced.....not you've been riding a while back.......damn interwebs.
My buddies dad used to race his MG, hence me getting interested in the scene.
Your car seems pretty damn sorted all over.

Re: Beetle type 4 turbo project - aka Kalashnikov
Not much has happened this past couple of weeks, both the red beetles will be racing this wekend at Zwartkops... so prepping took up most of my time.
I have made progress on the cooling side of the t4 turbo.... thanks to IMPI I'll post some pics when I get a chance.

Re: Beetle type 4 turbo project - aka Kalashnikov
I picked up a body shell this weekend from Werner (Jakaranda beetle club) It's in a sorry state, but perfect for my project. The door posts are in good shape, so structural it's real good

I hope that is not a fubar front suspention on the 1st bug!! Or is it just serious camber settings?
