Three days later a new set arrives at postnet for me to pickup free mahala no charge. I even begged the sender to send me their banking details so I can transfer the postnet fee and they ignore me.
What do you do in such a case ? How do you thank somebody like that ?
Well I most certainly gave them a call and thanked them but still have to mention it and say....
THANK YOU!
YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE
Don't worry Freddie. I understand how you feel. See it as them paying it forward. They might take offence if you insist on paying while they genuinely just wanted to share without reward. For most people it is very difficult to receive stuff for free, but sometimes we just have to accept. I'm sure you do your bit to help other people.

Cleaned and sanded the wood a bit. Started with varnish.
Do not want to do too much too it just trying to preserve and protect.
Sent the brackets in for a good clean and re plating
Arranged and Collected a CK gearbox for blue abomination at Ferdi's
And another good fellow Chardiv is sending me the mounting bracket with Postnet which should arrive in a day or two.
Edging closer and closer to getting her aircooled and on the road again.

I have the same approach as you, Freddie. Try to preserve as much of the originality. Also, you want to enjoy the vehicle as soon as possible, without it being an eternal project in the garage.

Unfortunately the Blue abomination has been repainted by the previous owner she used to be a light yellow from what I can see on the parts that I had sanded and applied some "rust" paint. But she is not going to get colour soon. For now just stopping rust and slowly replacing panels as my skill level grows with the welder. Some really bad spots that they covered by riveting a shiny plate over existing rust spots. If it was done really good would have been ok ish but they stuffed up !
Will post some pics when she is on the road to show and tell.

So got the hanger bracket today
Chardiv thanks for this one really came through when I needed
And while I was looking for parts came across these two
Anybody know why the left hand one is shaped like that ?
I have only ever seen the one on the right not the left one. Same size same pcd looks the same but why is that shape there ?

Different manufacturers,
The Left one was blanked 1st then shaped, the right one was shaped 1st then the hole was formed and rounded.
The left ones high spots center the wheel same as the right, but will not rust to hub if fitted for long time.

Lekka Freddie, I thought I knew VW's until I bought a bus. You ultimately need to tend to the mods done over 50 years by previous owners as well as the VW changes and mods. Suffice it to say the nights and weekends get too short. Best of luck!

Slowly does it. Unless you have loads and loads of cash it takes time and money. Certainly not the same as the usual gat jeuk when you want to go out and buy a car. Advantage and frustration is time. You want to get get it running so you can enjoy it and actually thinking of it part of the enjoyment is the time and effort it takes to get it running. Will get there just have to push through.

Ok so seems like we got the gearbox clutch spigot bowden and clutch pedal lever combination sorted. What a mission but so far so good. Might get her this weekend. Now I can get started on the wiring. Have done some wiring here and there around the house so going to attempt this wiring thing and see how far I get. Feeling confident that maybe with all your help I might get this sorted.
Or do you guys think I must just take it to auto elec and get them to sort it. Quite keen on attempting it but do not want to stuff this completely. Have basic soldering and multimeter skills what do you guys think give it a go or not ?
Bumper test fitted so long

Do it yourself.
Probable better than the twisted together connections I have seen from some professionals - I was doing the same in my teens when I didnt know better and didnt have anyone to show me the right way to do it

Going to definitely press on the Z button from time to time for some help. Managed to get this wiring diagram for a 72 bus from Samba
And this one for a 1700cc 72 bus assuming it is for a type4 motor
Which looks about the same as far as I can tell
By having a quick look

those colours will definitely help.
I have a few Bentley manuals and they also have the colour diagrams. You have no idea how much effort that has saved, especially on my 1302.

I'm with Tony on this one. Do it yourself then you know what you have.
Colour coded diagram makes it easy. Hopefully most wiring is still original and not all replaced with same colour wiring.
