Fitted the engine bay rubber last night. Was easy and painless. Removing the old rubber was a bit of a mission

That sounds like a plan I wonder what my wife would say if I knocked the Lapa down to park some cars.

You need to see the positive side of this issue.

One can see the car nicely from the couch, and not from the bedroom ....

I can't see how you can remove old engine rubber and install new one with engine in place.

So I have to replace the front windows rubber for it's leaking like crap.

How difficult is it to replace ?

Not too difficult. Lots of good guides online. It is best to do the job on a nice sunny day. Having good quality, soft rubber will be an advantage.

I see you've got Cal-look rubbers, so it should be even easier to install. It is also better to cut out the old rubber rather than try to save it. I've learnt this the hard way!

Front one has got the beading. (looks like the original rubber)
Going to collect the rubber this afternoon from Pro-Auto rubber. Only R313.95

Me and my wife replaced the front wind screen on our beetle. Man, that was not so easy[emoji3061] BUT we did it!

I used a thin rope and when I have to do it again I’ll get a thicker rope.

We had to apply a lot of pressure from the outside in and from the top pushing down and keep it applied otherwise the rubber does not give and the window pops out.

I have one of those shoe fitting spoon tools and that helped a lot with coaxing the rubber into where it must go.

I also used Pro Auto rubber. I will put all the chrome beading back when the beetle has been resprayed at some stage. Will then look at using Wolfsburg West rubbers.
