Re: '65 - Split bus resto....my project

Post by Dutch_Diver »

OK for those interested....now my hard work starts......tonight I've started to working on the fidderly bits....

1) Fixed the fuel gauge which wasn't working after all the work - Had to rewire as break somewhere in the old wiring :)
2) Fitted the water bottle and pipework...nightmare that was :(
3) Fitted the speedo cable to the speedo only to find the other end's not fixed to anything:(
4) Wanted to fit the ariel but don't have a 12mm drill bit, so shopping tomorrow :(
5) Took the old plates off and started to work out mounting the plate holders....not sure if I want to drill holes yet
6) Cleared up the wiring under the dash and started to think of how to fit the stereo without cutting the dash...any ideas?

All that took 4 hours and I don't feel that I've done much. Wife out tonight so I didn't get any grief :)

And so it starts or shall we say continues.
Like the new Avatar. Guess who is proud of their new bus :-) And rightly so, looks a stunner.

LL, do you suggest that I just screw the mounting bracket into the shelf then? or how best to fit?

There's no way she's going to let me....already been behind the wheel! :D

On the stereo, I decided to mount it in the back as I'm making a cupboard next to the rear, forward facing seat so this can house all the electrics. I want to run all the internal electrics from a separate battery and I bought a ZIG unit in the UK for this purpose. Bringing that back into SA on my own with 3 large suitcases did require some explaining to the customs officer :)

I fortunately purchased a stereo with a remote so it should be easy to control when I'm driving, don't need it in physical reach. I would like to say that was all in the plan but sometimes luck helps :)

The remote makes the choices for fitment larger.

I'm going to make an apology upfront......there are going to be loads of posts over the next few weeks as I need to get the bus ready for the run to George at end of January so that I can meet up with you all and have a few beers. I already have a co-pilot who's keep to tag along! :drunks:

More tomorrow I hope! Depends what time I get out of work.....

OK, so quick update....not been able to do much as wanted as work is demanding more and more time. Here's pictures of work this week. :x

I have Friday & Monday off work so I'm planning on working on the bus as much as the misses and kids allow. I also need to pop into the upholster to see if they can make the seat cushions and panelling for the bus so I plan to do that on Monday. :hangloose:

DD, that woodwork looks very nice. Wish I had skills with wood. Only thing I used to get right in woodshop was to get donnerd by the onnie with a piece of maranti because my projects always had gaps.

Hope it turns out nice.
