looks good BF, and I thought I was busy.

Got home from a great weekend away, thought it would be a nice change to actually work on a much neglected ACVW. She wouldn't start, 6V battery and all. Checked, water levels low... filled it up, charged, plugged back in and voila, starts first time!

But the idling is a little rough and the engine sounds like it's missing... Do a visual inspection of the points to check for wear/gunk/who knows, looks fine, can't check the points gap, as I need to buy a set of feeler guages ... Found my timing light and set the timing using the static method. Timing was out by what I guess would be 5 degrees!

"Keeping your VW alive" is recommended, no, make that compulsary reading for anyone who owns an ACVW. I am embarressed to say this, but it was the first time I actually set the timing myself  and tell you what, as with all things in life, theory and practise are NOT the same! I also checked and topped up the oil, checked all the plug wires, fanbelt, vacuum hose, and found out that I do not have a spark plug spanner to check their gaps, another thing to add to my list.

She does run a little better now, so it wasn't a wasted exercise, and next time I have to set timing,it will take me less than half the time!

Don't know why it feels so good when you get it right (and the little light comes on at just the right time :-) ) to do something as simple as set timing successfully ?!?! :hangloose: Love the simplicity of the design :hangloose:

:bn: on the dudes responsible for getting Christn's roof lining done, and made yet another attempt of making a mold of the dash pad.

Also got most of the rubbers including window and door rubbers, fender welt etc.

Hilda has gone back to the body shop to have all the various paint issues fixed.

I've been told it will be sanded down, all blemishes resolved and resprayed according to what I paid and how he normally works. the two muppets who did it last time have since been sacked, which was nice to know.

On the front-end, I've been getting quotes from Dave R about a narrowed/lowered front beam, which is coming in at 6 grand so far (1450 for a new steering box alone).
