Have lots of very fond memories of working at VWSA, had a lot of fun and us apprentices got up to lots of stuff we were not supposed to be doing..... but serving that apprenticeship set me up for life so I did learn a lot!!

Hi all. My name is Nel Hanekom. I live in Upington NC. I bought a beetle some time ago for off road use. As I was stripping the car ,to save weight, I find it very interesting all the designing and tech in the car. The quality of the built is outstanding. I am involved in a family business and a forex trader. I love old cars and like to be different and versatile in keeping me busy. I hope to enjoy this forum!

Just starting a restoration project of a 1969 ??? 1500 VW Beetle. Battling to determine the exact year model, and engine number.
The engine Number is SFH1069033 and Model 114 Chassis number 119443988. The vehicle also has a set of 14 Inch rosstyle rims, which also seems out of place.

Hi,
Newest Noob here with regards to the scene. Basically, wife is turning 40 next year and she always wanted a blue bus. Further more she wants a hybrid camper bus that can be used as a normal car, or as a camper.... So, here I am trying to get as much info as possible. Managed to find a shell, but will need some TLC, interior, engine and box. But more to come as soon as we get into the detail.

You wife has excellent taste as she choose a VW Bus. Just hope you stay with the aircooled motors as this is where the real mojo of the Bus lay.

There is however a very big danger, and that is once you have it running and enjoying the bus with its aircooled charm, you may want to place all your Fords up for sale...

This is however a addiction without cure.

Hi V6 Capri. Please weigh up your options when buying the shell. I would first shop around to see if I can get a bus that is more or less complete. Starting out with a shell might make you lose interest while you hunt around for parts. It might even be much more expensive in the long run.

Wife has a new 2017 Touran 1.6Tdi, and has pretty much always driven VW's. She always wanted a blue bus. So, when we stared discussing our 40'th birthdays, this is what we decided on... Believe it or not, this trumped a trip to the US we have been wanting to do

This would be first prize for me too. After my chat to 2 guys at the Aircooled festival on Sunday, they did confirm my initial thought process of sticking with the aircooled motor.

This is a long term project. And I know all about that... took me 3 years to rebuild my Capri. The good part is that I can just pull the cover over it and leave it until I have time and money to continue with it. Plans are for about 2+ years to rebuild it. Cashflow, it would be easier on the pocket to do it like this... ideal would be to just get a proper Westy and be done with it.. but don't have that cash just lying around and rather not drain savings to facilitate it now. Also, this way we can build it the way we need the functionality of it and not be too concerned about originality. That being said, we will stick as close to originality as possible, just the interior will be "customised".

Hi. I’m Jurgen. Love Vollas!... but I am useless in a garage. I have a 1960 Karmann Ghia that I have been thinking of ...heightening the performance a bit... without detracting too much from originality. I’m a bit of an originality nut, but the engine isn’t the original anyway. So I joined this site to read up on my options.

Spent the last 4 years restoring a rare Merc barnfind...so I know how expensive original can be. Apart from the Merc, the Volla shares a bunk with my skoonpa’s ‘58 MGA (who also has a 1932 Model A roadster coupe and a 1946 Harley with sidecar)
