Re: New Members - Introduce yourself..
Hi Guys, I am from Annlin, PTA, new to the ACVW scene.
Bought my son last year a 1600 twin port beetle that desperately needs an engine overhaul.
I have rebuild a few engines in the past, but never an air cooled vw one. Just stripped and cleaned everything last week, so I will start soon to ask some questions. Just love forums with lost of technical info/knowhow, so i know I am at the right place.

Re: New Members - Introduce yourself..
Given your experience, a good manual like Haynes should help a lot. Otherwise, there's always YouTube, Google, etc.

Re: New Members - Introduce yourself..
Hi I am from Pretoria North and have also tackled a 1976 Bay window. Currently looking for a starter motor for the 2,0L motor it came with. Have a donor bus but the starter that came of that is for a smaller 1800 I think as it does not extend far enough into the bigger gearbox. Anyone direct me the right way? Thanks!

Hi. Do you not have a 2l starter motor at all or is it just faulty? You can have it reconditioned or you can buy new.dereckbotha wrote: Thu Apr 09, 2020 2:28 pm Hi I am from Pretoria North and have also tackled a 1976 Bay window. Re: New Members - Introduce yourself..
Hi guys. I recently bought a 1973 Low Light Crossover bus. Very excited to get on the road with her. She runs and papers all up to date. She does however need some paint work but that can be done later. She needs a proper once over as there are more than one oil leak.
Who would you recommend to service and fix whatever needs fixing? I heard that Pierre from VdubTech is excellent. Then I heard about Lionel Davis who has been restoring cars for over 40 years and apparently knows everything about aircooled engines. Anyone heard of him??

Re: New Members - Introduce yourself..
Hi everyone. So, first of all, I have to say that I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that I've been reading and following threads on here as a non-member for years. Always enjoy reading about what everyone's up to. Well, better late then never I suppose? I just don't think social media will ever be able to fully replace a forum and the value it can offer.
Anyway, my name is Gerhard, and even though I'm "new" on here, I'm by no means new to the ACVW scene. My mom purchased a 1963 Beetle as her first car in 1979. She paid R200 for it then, but it needed a lot of work. Long story short: she got married, had kids and kept it all these years. I'm extremely privileged to now be its owner for the past 14 years. I also own a 1973 Beetle 1600L that I'm in the process of recommissioning. Also own a 1969 Type 3 Squareback, but is not running or licensed and needs a full restoration. Finances (or rather the lack of) are keeping thing halted at the moment, but hopefully that will change soon. I'm excited to get to know everyone and share in the passion. I might even know some of you already without even realizing. Will post pics of my cars in the relevant threads shortly.
