Got the engine out the other day. Decided to try and fix another engine and use that instead. Got #2+3+4 spark plugs out(slowly and with difficulty!), checked the piston heads, adjusted the valves and got the plugs back without too much hassle. Blerrie #1 spark plug started stripping the thread when it went back in. . Bought a thread repair and thread insert tool on eBay and now waiting for delivery.....

I gave my baja a major service today and discovered the steering damper is shot and pissing oil so I need to replace that as soon as I can get a new one
On this past wednesday night I had to replace the distributor in my baja after the old dizzy advance mechanism broke luckily my mom who was driving it is a member of the AA so they towed the car from Muizenburg to Thornton and I could just put my spare dizzy in which was ready to go with points and all

ordered some proper german Sachs Boge shocks for the '59 as driving with heavy duty ones on the front is a laugh. Now the next trick will be to try and find some 165/15 tires for the old girl

Gave her a much needed spit and a polish over the weekend and then went for a drive to see the progress on a townhouse I've bought...

Clean rust and spray the rim over the weekend refit the tyre on the rim and back on the beetle last night, Just need 6V battery now R925

It's amazing how isolated you can feel from your car if you put foot and that needle just lies there....

R925 for a 6V battery, yep, about right, paid that last year for mine, and on that topic...

This is not what you did on your car today, more like last time you had a free moment and there was some daylight.
Tried to start the old girl. No joy, lights are on but no-one home. Lifted the rear seat, and the 6V batterie's positive terminal had some lovely green foam. Now I am not a chemical engineer, but green means copper corrosion, and sure enough, after wiping away the grime carefully with an old rag (which was promptly dispatched permanently), half the freakin + terminal is gone!

So, I guess I am in for a new terminal, new battery (looked closely and saw a crack in the housing) so... my guess is, battery with crack standing in closed car, generates a little acidic gass from said crack, eats into the copper, and like a fire feeds itself making it worse, that about right?

If I get a gap this weekend, guess what I will be doing.... Got to get her running nicely, 20 June is not that far away!
