where it enters the exhaust pipe... on side is supposed to slightly face the cylinder head, causing exh gas to enter the pipe and the other sider is supposed to face away from the head causing the gas to exit (venturi effect). Unless the exh was made by VW, its prob just two stub welded onto the exh, causing the heat risers to block up

Why is it a pipe then and not a solid bar? I like Tony's answer slightly more, at least he's trying to BS me into believing there's some kind of flow there...Chris wrote:Did you forget your glasses?![]()

I was thinking that maybe the flow sort of went this way and that because the two exhuast ends are never at the same pressure, but that sounds like real

Here is my stupid question:
If heat gets conducted and warms up,doesn't it "flow" through the metal?

Sure it does, through the whole mass, not only over the surface like elastrickery

Re: The place to ask your "Stupid Questions" thread!!
My stupid question. Do you really need those silly little white reflectors on the front of the car? I know that they were compulsory in the '70s, but what about today? Anything in the road traffic act about them?

Re: The place to ask your "Stupid Questions" thread!!
I didn't have the heart to tell Dirk, but my razor went through roadworthy without them... but then... maybe they just didn't notice. I don't know, do the modern cars have them? Like the Golf 4 or 5?

Re: The place to ask your "Stupid Questions" thread!!
Nope. Its not needed. Looks quite crap anyway. It disturbs the lines of the car. And if the holes are covered up properly with no evidence of them being there, then sorted. And exaktly new cars dont have em.

More than meets the eye!

Some of the 4x4 bakkies here have them, but then "here" is Papua... That doesn't really help much, does it?

The one side connects to the outlet at the head. The other side run into the standard cylincer from the back. Its not for the places with snow. Its there to remove the flat spot when your autochoke is fully warmed up (about 2km) and the engine compartment is not yet at operational temperature.Ron&Gill wrote:Ron asks: How does it work?![]()

If you look at my motor assembly, you will see how the pipe runs on the right side.

Hey
Erm I was wondering if the beetle came out with some sort of cover that goes over the wires under the hood; right now it's just a thin carpet covering the wire mess?!

There was a complete cardboard insert that covered the rear of the dash and one that covered the tank. It even had a lip before the spare wheel.
